I recently bought this game and it is a lot of fun. After playing a few missions, I noticed that often after a mission my research points and the research tree all reset. I tried googling for help, but only got results for the steam version stating that it is an antipiracy measure and "buy the game" was the only advice I could find.
I already bought the game days ago. Gog says it is version 1.0.14.44 and within the game it says 1.0.14 (64 bits).
Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening? it is very frustrating trying to beat later missions with no upgrades.
This has happened after losing a mission and after winning a mission.

Hello,

To avoid this issue you should make new full installation of the game. You also have to delete the container folder of the previous installation that usually is the path C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\They Are Billions

After these steps you should have not the issue again.

Regards

Thank you very much!
While I don't see why reinstalling the game should fix it, it certainly has. I uninstalled the game, renamed my old save folder, confirmed that the installation folder was deleted, then reinstalled the game. I don't know whether it makes any difference, but my first installation was on a different hard drive than my windows installation. When I reinstalled the game, I installed it into c:\games. I abandoned my old save folder, so I don't know whether those old saves would work with the new installation. If anyone runs into this bug late in the campaign, I hope the old saves work.

I have been able to complete six missions and fail one mission without my points resetting. I have been saving backups between each mission just in case.

I have been writing software since 1994 and it never ceases to amaze me how many weird situations can happen and how many weird solutions there can be.
Ha! I just marked this problem as solved and guess what happened the very next time I completed a mission?
I completed my first mission using empire points, completed the mission on the first try, and once I got back to the menu, all of the technologies I had unlocked were gone. I still had my balance of 60 research points, but no technologies, not even the free one at the start of the tech tree.
Good thing I had a backup. I guess I just get to complete the missions over and over again, hoping I get to keep my research each time. It's frustrating, but the missions are fun, so it's not a total loss.
So, u use offline installer. Delete prev. version with folder. Delete any other prev.version same. Delete or rename game folder in AppData*\My Documents\My games?
that folder have more than one save file + account-file. And config+log. Better remove them all and start a new game.
did that. got the same behavior.
also found a neat bug in the survival mode that unlocked all of the maps so I didn't have to beat them with any particular percentage score. I beat the last one with less that 30% and haven't played the next to last one yet. I don't mind that bug. That bug was fun.
The campaign bug is not fun.

I played a game in survival mode. I won.
I returned to the survival mode menu to start a new game.
I selected the hardest difficulty. I had not unlocked this difficulty. The menu showed the conditions I needed to unlock that difficulty. The button to start the game was enabled. I set the difficulty to the minimum, then started the game.
After winning the game, I returned to the survival mode menu to start a new game.
All difficulties were unlocked.

Has there been any progress in figuring out why my research points keep resetting? I have been unable to progress in the campaign for about a month now.
Difficulties never be limited - it how you can increase % score rate to unlock next survival maps. In prev. post you say that you unlcok all maps at same time. So, you did or not?

Dev add two maps and one of them - new easy map - probably available at start (so 2 easy maps available) (dont remember). Also, devs change score rate, but i didnt realize how exactly it work now.

Completely wiped all traces of the game off my system, fresh installed, started new game, same issue.
Video: https://youtu.be/TCmJcwWVAHg

Issue seems to be research 0 getting unflagged, happens every single time I try to play the game.
If you use GOG Galaxy client and game version you can switch to first buiild xx.13.44 or something like that. No big changes they made for update for GOG/Galaxy builds and no bugs fixed. Basically its just numbers update, nost of changes of uptodate version number are Steamworks/Workshop features omitted from GOG/Galaxy anyway.

And there was no such issue in previous build. I tried offline only.
