Hey guys,
this is my first time in GOG, I loved this game, Theme Hospital and Simcity 2000. I had download them through some abandonware website, some website need emulator, some don't.
So since I already have them, what's special about GOG version? Does it has better support for screen resolution? how about 4k monitor?
I remember I saw a comment about this game that GOG just use a port version of the game to sell here which can be find on some websites and this port is not good as other port, is this true?

I love this 2 games, would like to support it but just I need to know any good reasons to purchase here istead of getting it for free from some websites.

Thanks a lot! Cheer and have a nice day! :D

Well for starters, there is no such thing as abandonware. There is no argument about it, those are all pirated games. Electronic Arts owns the IP and the game is still sold in physical and digital stores.

As for the product sold on GOG, it is the standard game as it was sold in stores, bundled with an already set up DosBOX-emulator so that you can run the DOS-version of the game on any computer without having to tinker with it yourself. The game itself is not modified in any way you're asking, GOG usually only patch games up with official patches.

Seriously though, forget about abandonware. It is a made up legal term. It is still software piracy, even when no owning company is actively enforcing the law.

You get the warm, satisfied feeling of not breaking the law.

SimCity 2000 and Theme Hospital are not abandonware. The GoG versions are the originals, tweaked to run on modern systems; you don't need to mess around with dosbox settings to get them work.

Plus as an added bonus, you're supporting GoG by buying them.

Personally I prefer the Rollercoaster Tycoon games, also on sale here; I just found them more fun, despite being a big Bullfrog fan. The RCT games were written by Chris Sawyer (also did Transport Tycoon and worked on the PC port of Frontier: Elite II)
If the legal implications weren't enough, a lot of the 'abandonware' copies floating around are corrupt. We get bug reports at CorsixTH frequently for problems that are in fact caused by an illegal download of Theme Hospital. Needless to say we don't support them.

Some of them also have viruses.
