The various tokens tell the game, which sound files they are supposed to use. In the case of LANGUAGE=GER it would look for the files

%GAMEDIR%\Data\LANG-2.DAT (strings)
%GAMEDIR%\Sound\Data\Sound-2.dat (audio speech)

So if GOG has the files included or you copy them by yourself from your original CD, it should work.

I didn't buy this one because I still got my CD Version. But there I could change Language in a setup menue. It was a bit hidden, so maybe that's also the case with this version

I just played my GOG version in German.

Text and Voice over.

The above mentioned method works therefore for the GOG version.

THX! Its the config files but of course! aaah! but didnt know the lang. and audio files were there in the begginning, since theme hospital only takes up about 182 mb when installed. And again...thanks a thousand!

I can't tell for others languages, but I know the French version was notorious for freezing/crashing the game at the start of the fourth level. So if you mess around with the language, stay away from the French version.

Hi, is it possible to change language also in the mac version of Theme hospital? I can't find the config file..

Right-click - Show Package Contents - browse to the .boxer file - Right-click - Show Package Contents, and it's in there somewhere, I think. Don't actually own this one.

Rightclick on your installed game,
show package contents
browse Contents - Resources
right click on Theme Hospital.boxer,
show package contents,
browse C.harddisk,
right click HOSPITAL.CFG,
right click Open With, other programm, use text editor (TextEdit),
change value for key LANGUAGE=... to your needed one (see above, e.g. LANGUAGE=GER),
save & close & have fun

Wow, many thanks for bringing this out. Confirmed languages are:

ENG
SPA
FR
GER
SW
ITA

NOTE: When editing the CFG file, make sure you left 1 blank line just after the language one, otherwise the game will NOT past the 4wg screen.

I just bought this and was browsing this forum for ways to implement swedish on my mac. I followed the guide but when I changed to SWE instead of ENG the game saids its damaged and can't be opened. Whats wrong?

I think this must be all the languages. There are 6 language files in the DATA directory, named LANG-*.DAT (0 to 5). There's also SOUND-*.DAT in the SOUND\DATA directory which would be the corresponding audio.

0 is ENG (English)
1 is FR (French)
2 is GER (German)
3 is ITA (Italian)
4 is SPA (Spanish)
5 is SW (Swedish)
