Whenever I mouse over the top of the screen to bring down the pull-down menu options, it flashes and goes away. As a result, I can't actually click on any of the options such as "save".

If I hold my Left-mouse button on the "file" button, I can bring up the "Save" "Load" options, but the instant I left go, the menu disappears.

Anyone else experiencing this problem on windows 7?

In addition, is it normal to have to enter a nickname every time you open the game?

That's not an issue, that's the way it works!

You have to hold down the left mouse button on the file menu, go down to save, THEN go right to whichever save game. It's very sensitive, just be careful. You have to hold the mouse button down the whole time.

Also, yes you do have to enter your nickname, that's how it finds the saved games i believe.
