Oathed: But this game confuses the hell out of me. Tons of different symbols. Little easy-to-follow explanation as you play at first - you really need to watch all the videos and then mess with it, and you'll learn little, and not very quickly. Who gets how many dice? What do the numbers mean on monsters? I went where the quest was and ...wait, what's the difference between investigate and develop?
Need a step-by-step guide to get started.
Develop gives you cards with new abilities or equipment (making fights easier, avoidable or giving VP from other's successes).
Investigate is used (as well as moving around) to collect leads which combine into the proofs needed for quest completion.
Everyone gets the three white Battle dice;
Geralt gets his three Hero dice (all different, which might be important if you need to lose one due to foul fates, and are looking for particular symbols (watch the faces of the dice and select the die which doesn't show the rarer types that you need in the upcoming fight))
Triss, Yarpen and Dandelion all get one Hero die, each in their own colour and with different combinations of faces.
Triss gets lots of 'magic' symbols, Dandelion mostly single shield/conversion and Yarpen a mix of double sword and double sheild faces (plus all have some others of less importance to their build).
Except for the single quest option it is probably best to spend the first few rounds developing, charging any development cards you get that are empty and collecting leads by movement once these tasks are done. Later it is worth the risk to investigate (many have setbacks, rather than investigate results, and this can cripple your early game, moreso than mid-late).
Both Dandelion and Yarpen can get developments that allow them to record quest results and gain bonuses to cash or to VP totals. It is more important to gain shields that prevent adverse effects than swords that give VP or other minor bonuses if you have the option. You lose 2VP for each foul fate or wound that over-spills the character sheet, and some monsters like the Striga can if you are very unlucky fill your sheet with wounds in a single round.
