Archaisor: The program can't start because Galaxy.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem
Which version did you install? GOG preload (standalone / galaxy) , retail etc. ?
This should not be happening and we need some more detailed info to track the issue.

I tried the manual install but it would not accept the 2nd-7th download so i installed Galaxy and tried through there which led me to this problem

There's a lot of chaos going on today / yesterday, so let's try to fix it step by step ;)

* do you still have Galaxy installed? If so, to which folder?
* do you still have the standalone files downloaded from the website? (1x .exe, 6x .bin + patch 1.01)

* if you tried to install the game via the Galaxy, what was the game path?

* and additionally, do you use any kind of firewall / AV software?

Hycinthus: Have you tried all the steps here?

1) If you have GOG Galaxy Client, uninstall it.

2) Then click start button -> type "cmd" -> right click "cmd.exe" and click "run as administrator"

Type :

sc delete GalaxyClientService
sc delete GalaxyCommunication

So the GOG background services are removed from you PC.

3) Then,
Go to the game folder / bin / x64 and delete or rename galaxy.dll... Launch the game, a error dialog will pop out but the game actually runs.

4) If all fails, reboot PC, some found this worked for some of us.

Hi,

I have the same problem. The game tries to start, I get a black screen and the Witcher logo in the task bar, but then it goes back to desktop in a few seconds. I tried the 4 steps with the galaxy removal stuff, but the problem remains. I get a crash report near the .exe file and that's it.

I have exactly the same problem as @puskinlupu !!

Renaming galaxy.dll worked for me. Now the game starts.
If the galaxy.dll is there just the process starts, and not the game. It eats up a lot of memory, and my internet connection fails. I have to end the process via Task Manager. See attached image

So after deleting the Galaxy.dll file my game starts, but I still get an error report after starting it, which says "the witcher 3 stopped working" ...
I really wanna play this game I've been trying to get it to work for 5 hours now :/

same here THE GAME DOES NOT START only a blink of the screen .. and in the crashinfo says :

Same thing happens with me, tried everything listed and I can't find out a way to get it to work.

I don't/never had Galaxy installed, so going through the cmd prompt did nothing to help. Reinstalling the game, running it in compatibility mode/as admin, and reinstalling/rerunning the patch didn't help. Deleting Galaxy.dll runs into the above problem ("The program can't start because Galaxy.dll is missing etc.").

I've been working on this on and off for about nine hours. If anyone has a solution not involving any of these steps I would greatly appreciate the assist.

same issue - tried fix listed get galaxy.dll missing and game does not load - have verified install and reloaded. Have set firewall. At this time game is unplayable.

same here, never installed Galaxy, process hangs in the background I dont have and antivirus of sorts and my firewall is disabled.
