Hello folks

Been playing Witcher 3 for a year now and HUGELY enjoying it! I subsequently bought the expansions but haven't actually began these quests yet (I'm waiting til after Kaer Morhen for the first, then after the main quest for the second)

I'm just wondering what other new content do these expansions bring into play without having to actually 'Accept' the new quests?

I only ask, because I was idly re-exploring the area east of Oxenfurt, and suddenly I notice a lot of high level creatures. Presumably these newly imperiled areas will be encountered more appropriately as part of the expansion quests.
But when wondering through Oxenfurt I was suddenly accosted by this Tax official ('The Taxman Cometh'). Easily dealt with and clearly a standalone minor quest.
I read that this was added with HoS expansion.
I'm just wondering what other added bits and pieces there are in areas of the map I've already explored.
It was only by chance that I happened to be wondering through Oxenfurt again and could have easily missed it (Although I understand much of HoS takes place in Oxenfurt)
But should I REvisit every village and settlement on the map just because the expansions might have added more incidental material there?
I love the sidequests - I don't want to miss too many by thinking I've 'done' an area!

You don't have to revisit anything. All of the content will still be there when you bite the bullet and plunge into the expansions. Note that all of Blood and Wine takes place in another area, Toussaint, so you will only find content from that expansion once you start it. Bottom line is you won't lose anything by carrying on as you are.

That's reassuring, but I'm not worried about being locked out of areas once I start the expansions.
It's more that there are dozens of small villages/settlements scattered across the map which at present I feel I have no need to return to because I have 'done' all the content there.
But might the expansions have added new content to some of these areas? And I might miss it because I am considering these areas 'completed'.
If the expansions add at least some material to already explored areas will the expansion's narratives encourage me to visit those areas as part of the quests, or will I miss out on a lot by considering areas completed and not revisiting?

No, as I said, you won't miss anything. Any content in previous areas is restricted to main areas, like Oxenfurt (Shani, etc.) where you would normally return from time to time. I can't think of a single out of the way area that you would have no reason to return.
