Hello, I have got a copy of Witcher 3 under the Christmas tree. I have successfully installed it, but I need to run it at a lower resolution than 1366x768 due to performance. When I set the game resolution to 1024x768, performance gets better BUT the game is stretched to fit the monitor. I do not want it since Geralt and other characters look too "fat".. Is there any way to play the game with black borders? I have tried changing desktop resolution, options in drivers, everything. And the game still runs stretched. Does anybody know how to fix it? My other games do play in black borders, W3 is an odd exception.

When I play it in windowed mode, it eliminates stretching but there is a performance hit.

I have a laptop with nVidia graphics card and Intel HD.

Were_wulf: I have a laptop with nVidia graphics card and Intel HD.
Make sure your Intel is disabled, so that nVidia has sole control over graphics. Then go to your nVidia Control panel 'Adjust Desktop Size and Position'. Be sure to set:

* Scaling Mode > Aspect Ratio
* Perform Scaling on > GPU
* Override Scaling Mode Set By Games.
I was having a similar issue when I was playing this on an R7 240 a few weeks ago (prior to upgrading). GPU scaling with preserve aspect ratio works for everything else, but not TW3.

Also it's not just the 4:3 resolutions, it was any of the non 16:9 resolutions from what I can tell.

Are you having any better luck with the NVidia drivers?

(As I said I upgraded recently so I don't have any reason to run this in lower resolutions, but I'm still wondering what the deal with this was).

Thank you for replies. I tried disabling Intel HD, then my laptop was running on some Microsoft Basic Graphics and nVidia control panel would not even open. NVidia drivers reinstall didn't work.

The Witcher 2 was not running stretched, then why TW3 is? It is driving me insane. In the game settings there is no option of keeping aspect ratio.

EDIT: It is not a solution, but I have to run TW3 in 1280x768 in order to have reasonable framerate. This way, the screen is not stretched that much. I would prefer to play with black borders. Unfortunately, I cannot force nVidia to prevent stretching since there is no option in control panel and with Intel disabled, the control panel doesn't even pop up. Strange enough, other games play in black borders just fine.
