Someone might have a savefile for you which is close or equal to the choices you made.

To do something as drastic as wiping your drive without checking what you may want to preserve is, shall we say... not very wise.

I had gotten so used to having all my save files stored in the Steam cloud. I just hope GOG will upgrade and support saving games to the cloud too

Not even Steam cloud actually secures all of your saves. Out of my obscenely large Steam library, only about a half of games use the cloud functionality. Oh well, you live, you learn :-P
