Had 6 guards with him when he decided to go into the swamp? If i was him i would send 90% of my guards from my town to come with me. That way he'll have like 30 to 40 guards to escort him into the swarmp instead of just 6.

If you didn't notice he thought that it was all peasants BS about witches so he was quite careless. Besides i have to admit that his people were doing fine to me only 1 or 2 died. I play on hard.
