Hey there !
In this contract , I talk to the dwarves and set off to open the door of the basement where a hound of the wild hunt is supposed to be .
As I try to open the locked door , a dwarf is supposed to turn up and give me a key to the basement .
But the dwarf never shows up in my game and I cannot finish this contract .
( By the way , I followed all the steps of the contract , using witcher senses . saw the frozen beehive, the bloodstain , the 'heavy footstep, followed the footsteps , crossed to the other shore , saw the hole where Gerald cannot get through and therefore reached the basement door )

Any ideas ?
I go back to the beehive and it kind of restarts the mission , the game asks me to follow the footsteps again etc etc . And I do so , but Gerald says nothing until I reach the basement door again , which doesn't open again and no dwarf shows up either ...again .
so ? what should I do ?

P.S.
I cannot find the exact saved game just before I started this mission because now I'm too far forward in the game !

The thing is , this contract is just lying there unsolved and it's bothering me :)

Did you just try to open the door? or Did you scan it with your witcher senses, and then pressed "E"?

This might not work, but I hope this video will help

You're not supposed to just "set off to open the door". You're supposed to follow the quest stages, ie. follow the footsteps with your witcher senses until you come to a hole where the hound squeezed through. Geralt will comment that he has to find another way in. He works his way around to the door down the steps and tries to open it (cutscene triggers of him banging on the door). During the cutscene is where the halfling appears to give him the key.

At first I tried to just open it . Then I used my witcher senses and tried again , but nothing .
By the way , I followed all the steps shown in the video but nothing ...
