I played (and LOVED) both W1 and W2. I know Geralt was taken by the Wild Hunt. I know Yennifer was, also. I know Geralt had escaped the Hunt. But I don't recall Yennifer getting away. So...how is it that W3 starts with Geralt having received a note from Yennifer?

Did I miss or forget something from W2 here? How did Yennifer get away from the Wild Hunt?

(NO SPOILERS FROM W3 PLEASE. I'm only about 20 hours in.)

I played and love W1/2 as well. I believe it explains it in this game. If it hasn't yet, you just haven't played far enough in the main story(?)

SPOILERS from Witcher 2

It is explained in Witcher 2 that Geralt trades himself for Yennefer. That's how he gets captured by the Hunt. I think it mentions this idea again in Witcher 3, which is probably why artician thinks it was originally explained in the current game.

Thanks, dark. I really don't recall that about him trading for her. Would make sense, though.
If you play witcher 3 they explain it clearly.
Good. I can live with that.
