I've just finished interrogating Skjall's corpse, so once I do Yennefer's genie quest, I can head to Kaer Morhen. Thus, the question: does it change anything if I go there straightaway and leave other stuff on Skellige for later? I ask because I'd like to get to Kaer Morhen ASAP and get the Wolven gear. But in my previous playthroughs I stuck around on Skellige to help Crach's kids and all. I think everything basically stays the same until I sail out to get Ciri, but I'd like to be certain.
The Wolf gear is quite puzzling. You cannot get it until you reach Kaer Morhen and yet its level requirement is 14, way below the level you are when you get to Kaer Morhen, making it quite useless to you at that specific time. Because of this, what I normally do is teleport to Kaer Morhen (gotoKaerMohren via console) when I reach level 14. No quests to worry about. Nobody there. Just follow the scavenger hunt clues and then fast travel back to Skellige or wherever.
I sure do wish I'd known about that method beforehand. I'm level 20 now, and my next quest is to find Uma. I could still just console my way there, grab all I need and make the gear before heading there officially, right? Or maybe at this point it's best to just go there the usual way...

The placement of the gear is certainly perplexing. By the time you reach Kaer Morhen by following the main storyline you'll likely be high enough level to wear the enhanced set, making the basic one a speedbump. I'm not sure what the reasoning behind it was. It makes sense for the Wolf School gear to be near said school, but it's wildly impractical from a gameplay perspective.

You really should do the Skellige main quests before officially going to Kaer Morhen because if sets into motion the finding of Ciri and the inevitable battle at KM, where you need allies -- that's why doing quests for people is important in this regard. Just teleport to KM, get the armour and when you're the right level upgrade it. Go back to Skellige, do the important stuff then finish Ugly Baby.
Fair enough. Thanks a lot for giving me this solution, even if I wish I'd know that a week ago. Could've saved me some time modding the griffin set into not looking like trash. I'm level 20 right now, so it's just a quest or two away from 21 and the enhanced set.

On a related note, if you've finished the game with the set, what build did you use for it? I'm mostly focusing on Signs, with two skills each from combat (light attack/heavy attack) and alchemy (the two potion tolerance skills). It's slightly frustrating in that Sign skills tend to have only 3 levels, so they've very slot-intensive if you want to spend enough points to get the higher-tier ones.

I use the Wolf set purely for aesthetic reasons. Don't like any of the others in comparison.

It's medium armour and stat-wise the set is useful for general use (sword or sign) and is good versus men or monsters. Based on the advanced version you have:

Armour
+10% Adrenaline Point gain
+8% Resistance to piercing damage
+8% Resistance to bludgeoning damage
+14% Resistance to slashing damage
+20% Resistance to damage from monsters

Trousers
+6% Attack power
+6% Sign intensity
+6% Resistance to slashing damage
+7% Resistance to damage from monsters
+19% Resistance to elemental damage

Gauntlets
+6% Sign intensity
+2% Resistance to piercing damage
+3% Resistance to slashing damage
+3% Resistance to damage from monsters
+6% Resistance to elemental damage

Boots
+6% Attack power
+2% Resistance to piercing damage
+2% Resistance to bludgeoning damage
+3% Resistance to slashing damage
+3% Resistance to damage from monsters
I know its stats, yeah. What I meant was what skills you use with it. A mix of combart and signs, I assume. Aesthetics is what I'm going for as well - if I just wanted medium armor I'd stick to Griffin, which seems more powerful and is less of a pain in the ass to get. Even if it takes modding not to look horrible.

That's right. It's a harmonious fact that sword and sorcery is my style, the Wolf gear is my favourite, and its stats are perfectly suited to that play style. So, yeah...
Makes sense. I'll probably end up respecializing at some point to spread the points more evenly. Though I do like to dip into alchemy for potion tolerance. Either way it'll wait until I'm level 30 and have all the slots.
