I have been getting crashes on Witcher 3 occasionally. But only while playing Witcher 3 and never any other software.

Each time, the screen freezes, the sound is a loud crackling and the only solution is to switch off the PC.

I have checked the event log each time and the sequence is always the same.

Event 56 Application Popup.
Event 6008 EventLog
Event 41 Kernel-Power
Event 1101 Eventlog

There is no indication of what that Applicatin popup is. But since it is only happening when Witcher 3 is running it does suggest it may be involved.

I have W10, i7 CPU. Maximus VIII GTX 760 video card.

That event log is misleading. It is created after you reboot from the system freeze (event 41 tells you this). From your description (freezing with loud sound crackling) I would hazard a guess that the problem lies with your sound hardware or driver -- probably getting stuck in an infinite loop, hence the freeze requiring you to turn the power off. Focus your efforts there. Update sound drivers or better yet, try a different, better sound card.

Thank you. I did consider that.

First two events are recorded when the error occurs which suggests a popup, associated either correctly or otherwise, is causing the problem.

The Event 41, as you pointed out, is just me turning off the machine at the power to restart. No choice really since the PC is locked up.

The problem is, this crash is only happens with Witcher 3.

The application pop-up Error 56 is no uncommon in my event log, though other than irking the event viewer, rarely causes any problems at all. Only Witcher 3 crashes.

So, woindering if anyone else is experiencing similar problems or if you or anyone else may have a handle on what may be going on here.

Addition. The only popup I know of is from Facebook. I'd like to turn those off anyway. They may be the source.

I've just managed to figure out how to turn off Facebook, and other notification on Chrome.

Hopefully, this will sort the problem.

Thanks for your attention to this. If the problem happens again, I re-open the post.

Thanks.
