At the ball with Triss, get past the two encoungers before we see the Countess. When we get into the courtyard and I approach the Countess Velma, nothing happens. I try to speak to the Countess and all she says is "Greetings".


arrrrgghhhhhhh

This is the second time the game programming has produced a problem. I have version 1.6 and I refuse to start over again as before after 30 hours of investment. Thank goodness this is a side quest, but totally ruins this game.

So, am I missing something?

If you are talking about Ingrid Vegelbud in the quest "a matter of life and death" you simply walk up to her and a conversation starts. after that you have to find her son by talking to the various guests. At that stage of the quest lady vegelbud does not talk to you except with phrases like "greetings".

If your save game is corrupted simply load a previous save. if you don't have one: change the way you save your games. Save games break in games all the time since forever and you might wish to view certain parts of the story again at a later date when you know through story progression what really happened there. Sometimes you simply miss interesting things. Did you notice e.g. that Dijkstra is also attending the party and you can have a conversation with him? I overlooked him the first time around ...

i usually have a few hundred save games at the end of a playthrough. might be extreme, but saves lots of frustration.

"Yes, I walked up to her by the band playing I think, and nothing get's triggered." I deleted the saved games I was with Triss at Ingrid's place and went back to where I have the doublet and masks, before I enter Triss' hideout. Did not notice Dijkstra, but did notice the General.
