This is a level 22 quest that I bypassed because when I started to go there the game told me that I wouldn't be able to resume any quests I currently had ( or something like that ).

I didn't want to leave any quests unfinished if I could help it so I backed off and didn't go to the Isle of Mists but instead have concentrated on clearing all the Question marks and trying to get as many Qwent cards as I could and some other quests that I already had and some I picked up along the way.

But I still have some Treasure Hunts and other things that I never finished, but not many.

I'm wondering what they really meant by that warning.

Will I not be able to return to these areas?

Will all current quests and Treasure Hunts and Secondary quests be gone if I return?

I'm up to level 25 and don't want to get too far ahead level wise but at the same time I don't want to miss out on all the quests in these areas.

Will I be able to come back and resume hunting down question marks? Will I be able to take on new quests here? What happens to any quests I am currently in the process of working on?

i just got there myself, but not by exploration. i would say if you dont know why youre there, keep questing.
If you choose to proceed after that warning message, any quests that have direct impact on the main storyline immediately fail. So it'd be better to do the side-quests before going there. It'll have no impact on Witcher contracts or treasure hunts so you can even do them after you visit the Isle of Mists, but a few side quests will immediately fail if you haven't done them already.

Thanks for the info.

So, as long as I have no Secondary Quests or Main Quests in my list I'm good to go and come back to this area and pick up Treasure Hunts etc. such as finding armor set diagrams later.

Good to know --- that's what was worrying me.

Arizona-Willie:
That's the gist of it, entering the Isle of Mist won't fail all of the secondary quests, only some of them. I don't want to spoil it for you because those secondary quests have some consequences later on in the story, so I'd say it's safe to do as much of them as possible before you go in. For obvious reasons, any "Brothers in Arms" main quests that you haven't done will fail as soon as you enter the Isle of Mists.
