There are two opposite opinions here:

1. The longer regeneration time the more health it will recover
2. It will recover the same amount of health. Therefore the shorter regeneration better.

So which one is it?

also except the getting drunk part. Is there a difference between food?

From what I can tell, the food that costs more in the shops generally heals faster. However, I can't really find any data to support that other than my subjective perception in the game.
As I see it, use food only when you really have nothing else. Since I've started to brew potions, I almost forgot about food...

Exactly also there is one brewery(not sure from which creature) which restores you health when you cast spells soooo you know what to do with this one.

Rozenman: Drinks are used to regenerate your energy not health that is why. However i would suggest to you people not bother with food from the moment you will start brew potions.
Says who? Why does the description of water or any other beverage say it regenerates vitality, and give you the same "Vitality Regeneration" buff as food does when you consume it? If it was meant to regenerate stamina (I've not noticed that it does), shouldn't it give you a different buff?

I say so because it was always in series for drinks.

Some of the data I measure in game about food :
(I only got the french names, so the names here are just a rough translation so you can see what i'm talking about).

Name | Duration | Effect | Total life healed
Erveluce (yellow alcohol bottle) | 0s | No healing at all
Bread, honey, raw meat, fish, chicken | 5s | Vitality regen +50/s | 250 vitality healed
Wolf Liver | 10s | Vitality regen +50/s | 500 vitality healed
Pig toasted meat | 10s | Vitality regen +80/s | 800 vitality healed
Wizima's Champion, Riv's Kriek | 25s | Vitality regen +10/s | 250 vitality healed

This is just a small sample, but as you can see the differences between food can be quite big.

P.S. Most if not all of these values can probably be found in the game's files, I didn't check that yet.

Anyway from the moment you will start brewing potions it doesn't make much sense to use food especially after you get a brew from Ehinda which restores your health when you cast signs.
Rozenman, we got your opinion about the potions :)
But this thread is about food, not about potions.

Toxicity right? On a higher setting where you use lots of potions to fight with, might be better to eat food rather than use swallow potions
