Hi,

as the name of my thread already suggests, I've encountered a really annoying bug in The Witcher 3.

So ... after I finished the Quest "Possession" where I have to help Cerys, the daughter of Crach an Craite to cure Udalryk I encountered this bug.

I dont know what went wrong during the quest, but since then there was always battle music in the background. I didnt thought, that this would be so an annoyance so I kept playing. But after a hour or so I encountered some Monsters during my adventures and wanted to fight them, but i couldnt attack them. I spammed the left mouse button but nothing happened. I even couldnt change the weapon with 1, or 2 and couldnt use any signs or the crossbow. So i had to run untill no monsters were following me. After that I wanted to save the game and to restart it but to my surprise I could not save the game ... the battle music were still running in the background but for gods sake there were no monsters or any other enemys near me.

I tried to save in the menu and with the hotkey, but it didnt worked. And the last save is ~ 2 Hour old or so. (The auto save function of the game was activated, but there's no up to date autosave) :(

I'm writing this, because I'm still running the game and I would like to ask, if there's a other way to save my game because ... even if its just 2 hours, I still dont want to start all that over again.

I hope, that someone can help me.

Best Regards,

Bl4ckRange

I'm not certain if it's even possible to save your game any other way, even with the console. Have you been using the console by any chance?

After a hour of waiting I had enough and just quitted the game ... so there's no need to save my game anymore. And erm... no, I don't use the console.

... Well, since I don't need help anymore, I think my problem is "solved". But just to be sure, it would be nice, if anyone knows of a other way to save the game ... just for the case that I encounter this bug a second time. If there's really no other way for that, then its okay to close this thread.
Skellige is one weird place and random monsters, people, and other stuff "fall" in this region. This could be your issue. Actually it is not confined to Skellige it is a very random thing like I said as when I was in Velen I encountered a group of deserters near a coast and cleared it but to my surprise battle music is still playing and in the in-game map there was an indicator for an enemy I sent bombs flying and casted igni but this mysterious enemy couldn't die or even emerge from the ground so I just left the area and fortunately I was able to save my game.
as long the battle mode is triggered theres no way to save the game - yours seems like a temporary bug. only solution is reloading the savegame, best restart the game. whenever you experience strange things with controls>save and restart.
... you can set the autosave function in certain intervals. Use something shorter (maybe 5 minutes), and you might have something to fall back on.

On the other hand: two hours of gameplay simply amounts to "nothing" if you look at the scope of the game...
two hours without manual/quick save :D means alot - btw autosaves dont work either, so setting the interval shorter has no effect

If your autosaves do not work, then you have a bigger problem. Though - remember - your autosaves will overwrite - they are not permanent like manual saves.
This bug is still in the game as of v1.31.

A simpler solution is just to leave Skellige, i.e. travelling to Novigrad, Vizima, Velen or Kaer Morhen. This solved the bug for me.
Loading an earlier save will get rid of the bug but it will resurface once you complete the quest again (tricking the hym).

From what I gather, the bug is triggered after fighting the 3 guys that accompany Udalryk. The fight stops after 2 of them are dead, leaving the third alive, which makes the game think the fight is still going on.
