Hi!

I was wondering if anyone else is getting artifacts (if that's what they're called). The glitch is quite persistent in shadows and are noticeable in snowy areas.

I'm running the game with a HIS R9 280X. Changing graphics options does nothing. I've also updated to the latest beta driver which actually improved performance, but the glitch is still there.

Thanks!

Maybe you'll get some answers here:

I think what you're calling glitches is simply how the engine handles some shadows - it uses a dithering algorithm for making "fake" smooth shadows, and it looks awful. Witcher 2 has them also, and no way to turn it off.. :/

I get this grossness as well, but tweaking the .settings helped a bit. It's not perfect, but it is a fair deal better. If you haven't already, go into your user.settings file (located in Documents/The Witcher 3) and change the following settings to these values:

CascadeShadowDistanceScale0=2
CascadeShadowDistanceScale1=2
CascadeShadowDistanceScale2=2.5
CascadeShadowDistanceScale3=2.5

I also changed the file to read only in order to ensure the game doesn't mess with what I've done, but be warned that this can cause issues with updates if a patch attempts to change this file. For me, these changes had negligible performance impact, but I'm running a GTX 970 and an i7-4790k.

Another thing to note: the settings in game will show that shadows are on the "low" setting. It just doesn't understand that you've set it past Ultra.

Hope this helps. Like I said above, it helped a little for me, but it's still not perfect. Other tweaks like this can be found in a very nice forum post here:

I appreciate all the replies. Hopefully its just the dithering you mentioned and not caused by a dying GPU.

I'm not a fan of too much tweaking but I'll give it a go sometime.
