So, I have +60h of Witcher 3 and always runned just fine. A little stutter now and then but solid fps rate and fluid play.

I stop playing one month or two and recently come back to game again.
I did all the updates (I play through GOG Galaxy) , load the game and now, it seems that my laptop is a toaster. Slow responses, low fps, pretty much unplayable.

I lowered graphics but nothing changed. I optimizes through Nvidia GeForce Experience but nothing changed. I loaded a older save to see if the recent save was corrupted or something but nothing changed. I reinstalled the game, nothing. I rolled back to older updates, nothing.

I don't understand. I played 60 hours so well and now it's unplayable. I really want to finish this amazing game but I don't know what to do. I really need some help.

MSI Apache Ge60
GeForce GTX 850M
Intel Core i5-4200H CPU 2.80GHz
4GB RAM

Looks to me,like a complete reinstall is only fix.Unsure whether your saves will work as they might be corrupted.
Have the same laptop model, and have the same problems.
This is GeForce Experience fault, as this software is pile of steaming sh*t. What is actually happenig here is GF:E screwing up graphic card drivers during "updating" them. As an effect, because yor GTX850M driver is now detected as crippled, your system is defaulting to use your integrated GFX (which is Intel HD), causing MASSIVE malus in game performance.

This is how I fixed it:

1. Go to nvidia.com and download GFX drivers manualy (I tested this with 361.43 version and it worked fine); forget about "auto updating" in GF:E - this feature is as fu*king useless as tits on fish
2. If you have GeForce Experience running in background, shut it down
3. Run file you downloaded in step 1 (name should be something like "361.43-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql")
4. Actuall setup files must have been unpacked first, so you need to select a directory for this. WARNING: IF YOU HAVE A SEPARATE SSD DRIVE ONLY FOR OS DO NOT UNPACK THIS STUFF HERE! Make a separate folder somewhwere else.
5. When unpacking is done, go to the folder you created for it and run setup.exe
6. Go for "non-standard instalation", and then select "make a clean instalation"
7. Setup should start an installation module and after few moments you will be asked to restart your system. Do it.
8. When your system will be up again, the setup will launch itself again and (hopefully) finish a clean instalation
9. !!RESTART YOUR SYSTEM AGAIN AFTER INSTALATION WILL BE FINISHED, DO NOT CHANGE ANY GRAPHIC SETTINGS YET!!
10. After second restart, go to the GeForce Experience and in "Preference" tab DISABLE automatic driver download and automatic game optimalisation functions
11. Close GeForce Experience, launch Witcher 3 and adjust your graphic settings IN GAME if necessary (but if you already had everything set-up to your taste earlier, it should be fine)
12. Enjoy the game.

Thanks for your response, mate. I did everything you said but unfortunately, didn't change anything. Game is still stutter af. . I'm really frustrated atm. I don't understand why it changed so much. I've tried everything. I'm start assuming that I won't be capable of finish the game :/

Did you check which graphic card (integrated or 850) is in use when launching the game after nvidia drivers re-inst? Keep in mind that "clean instalation" erases all profiles and associations that were created.

How can I check that? It's supposed to use 850 graphic card, right? Yeah, I know that clean installation erases all profiles. It's all erased and game still run like before. Can I assume that the problem isn't of Nvidia Experience?

Go to witcher3.exe (if you install the game with default settings, it can be found in Program Files ->The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt ->bin ->x64), right-click it and in menu that wil appear you should have an option "Run with graphic processor" (or something similar, depending on your OS language). Make sure that "high capacity NVIDIA graphic processor" is selected and it is set as "default".

If you can't find this option, you can use NVIDIA Control Panel (NOT NVIDIA GeFoce Experience) - right click somewhere on empty piece of your desktop and select relevant option from menu. Then go to "3D settings management" in the task tree in left panel and when it will be loaded select "Program settings" tab in main window and find Witcher 3 in drop down list. Then select "NVIDIA high performance card" from drop-down list no. 2 below. If Witcher 3 it's not on the list, you can use "Add" button and navigate to Witcher3.exe to add it.
Minimum system requirements - Windows:
OS: 64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 8 (8.1)
Processor: Intel CPU Core i5-2500K 3.3 GHz or AMD CPU Phenom II X4 940
Memory: RAM 6 GB
Graphics: Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 660 / AMD GPU Radeon HD 7870
Please mind that we only officially support full-size desktop graphics cards
Hard Drive: 35 GB of available space
DirectX: 11

I used GeForce Experience to optimize TW3, but after an update [to the witcher] GE now says my system doesn't meet the min system requirements [it runs fine with everything on low]

Phenom ii x4 965BE
GTX 750ti [low profile]
8GB Ram
1024x768 [native res [very old monitor]]

Also I noticed with G Exp, is that when you optimize a game it's changes the screen res, after you optimize a game, make sure to click custom, and change it to your native screen res.

All the best

I checked that and Nvidia graphic processor is already set as default. I dont know man. I'm already hopeless. It's sad. I pay for the game and can't finish him.
Although we can't find a solution, ty for your time, friend

I'm aware of minimum requirements. Although, I already played 60h and played just fine. When my problem appeared , I set graphics to low resolution and still unplayable. So, I dont think that is the problem. :/
