Alright, I can admit it, the game is beautiful looking! I have it maxed out and have other settings I tweaked with it in Nvidia control panel and it looks even better now too. Hands down the best looking game I've seen on a PC (before this it was Dragon Age: Inquisition, but the Witcher 3's world feels somehow more alive and real).

Now I'm really excited to see what mods can do for the game!

. With HairWorks off I was getting between 50-60 frames per second on Ultra/High on a 970. Turn on HairWorks for Geralt Only and I dropped to 40-45 frames per second. Turn HairWorks all the way on? Some battles dipped into the thirties.

“Oh boo-hoo, the thirties,” I cry. Considering the console versions struggled to even hit 30 frames per second at 1080p (reviews reported sub-30 frames per second during chaotic scenes) I’m feeling pretty great about The Witcher 3 on PC.

I have Hairworks on for everyone. All that shiny, wavy hair! Plus I've totally noticed Geralt's beard growing out. :)

It's nice to hear it from you. What about "the" downgrade? Could you admit that... well, the rumours were not that precise?

As for graphics, I've tried switching between low, medium and high, and I can say for me picture still looks awesome even on low. No hairy beast for me unfortunately, maybe with the next upgrade in a year.

I hope now you're happy with your upgrade and consider it to be a worthy purchase.

It's not beautiful looking. Its not any better than Witcher 2 enhanced. Its a sorry excuse for a dumbed down game. It's also why we'll see a Witcher 3 Enhanced edition to put back some of the visuals they removed.

Dont offend the Wii U.
It is looking great, apart from the plants and grass.

I played the Witcher 2 very recently, and I can definitely say it looks better than the Witcher 2... The only part that looks bad in my opinion is the foliage. It just doesn't look natural at all, especially the way it moves in the wind.

And the roads, and the buildings and the water

That's on purpose... It's stylization. Kinda obvious they weren't going for photorealism for certain asepcts of the game.

Well of course it is on purpose, they have dumbed it down.

Remember gif's are limited to 256 colours.

This is from 2013. You know, before they got the nod to make it look like a console game ?

I agree. "Painterly" and some instances seem very storyboard-mobilized. If you take a snapshot of the screen when the wind is howling, and the trees bent over the road, that looks just like a painted scene.

Now, that isn't to say I like all those trees blowing all the time. That could use a tweak. Also, some pine trees that are broken, and all their limbs torn away still move in the wind, which they could never do in the real world. They're stiff! Those specific types of trees in game need the wind blown out of them. ;)
