Anyone else getting the following drop-outs to desktop since 1.10?

a) start a new conversation for a quest - so far Possession when trying to go into the Jarl's building - worked around by going in the back door
b) trying to play a game of gwent at any of taverns

The drop-out seems to occur at random times when going into some cut-scenes.

Have had no issues in starting the game or loading 1.08.4 versions and saving them just some really odd random drops to desktop with no error messages. One minute the game is fine the next I am looking at GOG and my desktop.

Hi Thrandir.

sounds like a similar Problem some others (me included) have since Patch 1.10.
What did do the trick for me is to rename "d3d11.dll" and "dxgi.dll" files to something different.
Both can be found in the " Witcher3\bin\x64\ " Folder.
Not saying it will work 100% as for some it does prevent crashing to desktop, for some it don't.

Cheers.

Delete the d3d11.dll and dxgi.dll files, I had the same problem, now it works just fine.
I'm having the same issue and I tried to delete these files, but I don't seem to have them in the bin\x64 folder. Could they be any other place?

Any other fixes for this issue??

Hi Deedlet.

Those 2 Files should be there . might wanna check if you navigated to the right folder...
See if there is the "witcher3.exe" file (Size is aprox. 45 MByte) besides a couple of other .dll files.
For example "d3dcompiler_46.dll" or "NVHair_x64.dll".
If not you are most likely in the wrong folder.
Don't get me wrong, its not my intention to treat you as a noob or whatever.
Just want to make sure that you are lookin at the right place.

Yeah I'm in the right folder. But I read somewhere that Steam users don't have that file or something. Which is weird cause I'm not using Steam... I use GOG & my game was installed from discs. So I'm not sure why I don't have it. I even took a pic of everything in the folder (attached) . I was able to play without crashes last night for a while by running the game "as admin" and that seemed to work for a few hours which was nice...

Still, I'd love it if they fixed this bug asap... I'm sure they will as I'm not alone in having so many issues. And I do not take offense to anything you ask, honestly I'm probably a noob comapred to a lot of people but I don't care. You're helping me and I really appreciate it!

Yup, getting random drops with no ".exe stopped working" messages. Glad I'm not alone.

Hi.

2 additional things come to my mind which could be worth trying if you are still in the mood.

1st :
you could try and verify your installation via the Galaxy Client.
(go to Witcher 3, click "More" Button, then "Manage" and finally "Verify/Repair")
Doing so should re-download any missing or corrupt files.
But beware, this may take a while.

2nd :
If you by chance use an NVidia GFX Card, try to use a older Version of the Drivers.
Buddy of me switched back to the Version i use too (353.30, newest one is 358.50)
and crashed stopped.

And yes, even i am no longer affected by those crashes i hope they get this issue fixed soon
so my fellow Witchers can enjoy killing monsters :-)
@hpq0235sa

I did do the verify thing and it didn't help at all. However through my research I found a few things that worked for me. So I'll put them here just in case it will help others.

One - I found out that for some reason I had to exit GOG client and restart it as "admin".
Two - Once I restarted as admin and every time I load the game, I have to manually load it and NOT go into "continue from last save".

That's it! And it seems to be working fine for now. :)

You. Are. A. Hero! I've been having this bug since 1.04, decided to wait for all the DLC, tried again in 1.08, then again now with the massive patch - the game always crashed after about 15-30 minutes. I tried every fix I could find; nothing helped. And now this! So simple and yet so effective. I've just been playing for about two hours crash-free! Thanks!
I am getting the same problem as well. Sometimes even making the game unplayable.
Drops to Desktop right after loading a save.

Then I found one of the solutions on the net.
I deleted the setting file at my documents/witcher 3
Then the crash to desktop problem is gone.

i'm very happy that I helped. I know how frustrating this stuff can be. Especially when you pay for a game, and you feel like you didn't get what you payed for...

And I know right? So simple, yet so complex haha
Thanks people I did the work around and haven't had a drop out.
Sounds like you all are using overlays like Dxtory or Afterburner.
