You can't just show Galaxy (*not* GOG) a backed up folder. Your saved games have to be put back where the game can find them, namely:

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\The Witcher 3\gamesaves\

So, if you have your 'gamesaves' folder backed up, you need to put that folder back into...

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\The Witcher 3\
well, that's what i've already done, and it doesn't work... thanks anyway

how old are your saves? are they like Ver 1.0 with no DLC or are they 1.3. I've had issues where I've gone back into a game nearly 2 years later only to find that "old saves" are not recognized with the updates

If your saves are old there is *nothing* you can do. They have to be compatible with the version of the game you're playing -- you will not find any patches on Galaxy. The game is updated to the latest.
