"Free" dlc just feels as bad as the stuff valve pull, it feels pretty much DRM for a company that promotes DRM free.

you put a (one time?) redeemable code from your game in to unlock "free dlc" be forced into using the gog client. to what end? know pirates are just going to get the full thing without any hassle and Im being forced to install more unwanted background / updater bloat on my system (which just installed and launches with the game) that I don't want just to get to what I have paid for?

tldr no thanks, Ill skip the gog "app" keep your DRM protected DLCS or maybe Ill just download them cracked and unhindered from *sitename* to enjoy a real DRM free experience.

fyi I have box retail I just dislike jumping through these types of hoops why I use GOG in the first place! this kind of thing just gets my back up :/

I haven't tried it yet, but why would you have to install the gog client? You can redeem a code on gog here: https://www.gog.com/redeem.

Then just go to your game in your library and download it. No client should be needed. You sound like you have used gog before so how did you not know you could do all this without the any client app install?

You don't need a client for the free DLC, you just go to "http://www.gog.com/game/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_free_dlc_program" and then you add it to your cart and checkout. Now you can download it from your library, it will be at your Witcher 3 section.

I just got the 2 installers from there without using any client or GoG downloader.

I didn't get my copy yet but thanks for verifying this.

The OP is just another person getting mad at their own ignorance.
maybe I got the wrong end of the stick? I got my game retail, launching it is telling me to sign in and input my registration key to get my 16 free dlcs ? I will have a look at the link and report back if it works
You just download your DLC installers with your internet browser (you know, save file as...) and you are done. You can install whenever you want.
yes I can add it to my cart, but no it doesn't allow me to add it to my account/download it from what I can see?

the DLC is DRM

robomop: yes I can add it but nope doesn't work because I don't have whicher3 on my GOG account nothing displays in downloads for wicher 3
Then register your game with gog.....?

https://www.gog.com/redeem
I don't want to register my game, why do they want me to register ? isn't that what DLC is ? I don't get it?

I don't like DRM id rather pirate it or better ignore it completely :)

So how do you propose they do this? Just make the DLC available for anyone to download? How else are they going to know you bought the game?
I don't see how this is DRM in anyway.

Me either. He is asking for the equivalent of GOG just making every game they have available for downloadable to anyone that wants it and then assuming that only the people who bought it would download whatever they want without paying for it.

"So how do you propose they do this? Just make the DLC available for anyone to download? How else are they going to know you bought the game?"

pirates are getting the DLC anyway what's the purpose of locking it away behind a code?

"I don't see how this is DRM in anyway."

you have to enter a code to get software unlocked for your account only, is that not the definition of drm? (while the DRM free DVD can be sold on the DLC can not?)

the "digital restriction" part is the part that can not be sold on or transferred to another user ?

"Me either. He is asking for the equivalent of GOG just making every game they have available for downloadable to anyone"
nope only the free DLC, which is free and requires you own the game to actually use!

It's free extra goodies and all they ask for the free extra stuff (which is just a bonus!) is for you to register on a website.

This is not DRM as you can play the game without the free bonus stuff.

To be honest, you just sound a bit paranoid.

Your definition of own is different than mine as for you means bought or stole.
