as soon as i enter the beach my quest npc "friend" gets one hit killed by one of the 3 monsters.. so i loose the q.. i think it has something to do with the new patch because friends told me that the guy can take a few hits without a problem..

This bug has been noted elsewhere. Here is a workaround for now.
