This has been bugging me for a while now. First time I played this game I didn't think much of it, but seeing it again really irked me.

At the very start of Chapter 2 (in this case on Iorveth's path, though I believe the issue is the same for Roche's path), the sky is a pink or purple colour. I looked up videos online and on quite a few (from what I can tell are consoles) the sky isn't so extremely... vibrant. Eventually, when Geralt notices something is amiss and is looking at the sky I've seen videos showing dark clouds gathering, but in my game (and other PC specific videos) it's just a purple sky.

I've taken a screenshot of the same scene from both sources (my game and the video) for comparison.

Apart from it looking awful, it completely crushes the drama of the situation and is now making me wonder if this is some greater issue that has been affecting other aspects of the game that I'm not aware of.

I've tried lowering all settings but the problem persists (hence the horrendous quality of my screenshot). I've uninstalled and re installed the game, even switching from my disk copy (which was up to date) to downloading my gog copy. I've done various searches for this issue but I can't find anything that relates to my issue (one steam page with one reply that simply said "nice!" completely out of context). I've only recently done a clean driver installation...

My system if your curious is
GTX 780,
i5 4670k
16gb ram

If this is a bug, it's a bug that no one seems to talk about as I can't get anything from a google search related to it, though I admittedly lost patience after a while.

I can run the game at a smooth 60fps on max settings with super sampling off. This is not an issue on my end, unless it's an issue with recent drivers. But that being said, the last time I played this game was nearly 2 years ago and I recall this same problem so it's either an Nvidia issue (card is working dandy with no issues, it's not overheating and it's still pretty new to boot) or an issue with the game that everyone seems to have overlooked.

I'll appreciate any help offered...

As far as I know, it's no bug. Xbox version just has a different color grading, as it came after the pc version. I also find the sky and saturation a bit strange in that part of the game on pc. But your game should be fine.

It almost looks as if your computer isn't loading the cloud texture. Most of the time you have something that saturated in a game it's a loading or texture corruption issue, or maybe even a transparency issue (since that sort of saturated pink/purple is used for transparency at times).

Turning everything down may not be the way to go; I'd try turning some things up first. Anything to do with textures in the configuration tool would be something to look at adjusting. You may want to drop the screen resolution and try setting it to one of the higher graphics modes if you're not already using high or ultra to see if that fixes it.

If it's a transparency issue, I'd check to see what your settings are for your graphics driver (AA transparency comes to mind), and try switching it around to see if it improves.

Okay thanks for the reply:

Some more info on my issue. The Sky IS visible on the walk up to the meet with Henself as Stennis, it's obscured a bit by the strange sky colour, but you can see clouds moving and the comet.

My Settings are on Ultra, so max settings don't improve it and other then drastically disimproved texture quality it's the same issue with low settings. I've fiddled with LOD settings and even exceeded the games base settings via the config file. I tested AA transparency and there is no difference.

I see threads from the past discussing issues with Radeon cards where the game would be way too bright and causing scenes to become obscured in light. Having an Nvidia card it can't be the same issue, but it's similar if not as severe.

Can someone get some screenshots from their own game to show me how that area is meant to look at that point? If you need a relevant save I've uploaded one:

I've never paid attention to this, but I agree that the dark sky looks better.

The game was downloaded and installed today (12/05/15) from GoG.
Could'nt get Galaxy to recognise my old install nor download it with the client, so I redownloaded the entire game through the website.

Took a screen of your save, including my graphic configuration. Sky is purple.

After looking at your screen shot again and loading your save, I don't think you're seeing anything wrong. It's just a super saturated sunrise/sunset. I'm assuming this is maybe a console limitation then if they're not using the same sky shader, as my screen looks like yours and Pazze's screen. I guess it doesn't really stand out that much to me, as the game has some pretty heavy saturation/bloom throughout.

Oh well.

Thanks monkor and pazze for taking the time to get those screencaps. It's comforting to know that I'm not some isolated case. It's a shame, but it only affects that opening sequence so it doesn't appear to hamper the rest of the game.

I should note that I have noticed some improvent after fiddling around with AA transparency and turning gamma correction off. Clouds and distant objects aren't as heavily obscured as they were before. So it wasn't all for naught.

I suppose the issue is unresolved and will remain so but at least there is clarity.

Thanks again.
The henselt part, at least for me, its been always very purple. Maybe because of the hour ingame... At least that is the silly explanation for myself. When I play Geralt still purple but no so powerful, less saturated. I always thought this was kinda artistic or creative sky from the developers
