Really nice to see this kind of posts where people really helps, enjoy the game and try to get better on it.

Double click seems to jump to attack enemies. Only with left click and of course beeing aware that you can jump into the middle of 4 enemies.

Thanks for all that. Great tips even for us veteran gamers.

Epona222: My tip is that the Quick Time Events in this game are impossible if your mouse sensitivity is NOT at maximum, so check that in your gameplay settings. I was struggling for days with some of the QTEs (arm wrestling especially, also some of the boss combat "click a mouse button as fast as you can until the bar fills up"* type of thing) until I turned my mouse sensitivity up to 10.
this is a huge help for me (hopefully). arm wrestling was impossible for me after the very first guy, either because i don't have 'nintendo fingers' or my god knows how old mouse is just crap (or both of course). thanks for opening up another aspect of the game to me.
This simple tactic will result in so many cheap kills you might want to forego it. However, for fights you're having lots of difficulty with, it can be helpful.

Simply this, when selecting abilities, max out bombs & traps. Daggers are fun too, and nasty, but bombs and traps is where it's at.

For any foe or group of foes that have to be triggered before combat begins, if you have access to the fighting area, it's all over for them. In Chapter 2, while pursuing this quest or that, especially the Nekker and Andrega quest, you should find a large amount of snares - what I think of as "bear traps". I found 43 of them, and I'm willing to bet there were more. Of course they're not weightless (unless you're using that mod), so you give up something in order to carry all of them around with you.

Once you get traps up to 100% more damage they are absolutely lethal. I had an easier time killing the Andrega Queens in Hard than in Normal, just using this strategy. In fact, I killed them so fast I didn't even see the creature model, just a red mist. All I did was save the game and the last cocoon while I put all the traps (40 of them :P ) in one spot. Then topped it off with a freezing trap so I could easily see where they were. As it was I got lucky and the first Queen appeared right on top of them, poof, instant death. The second I only had to lead a few feet and snap!, quest done. This tactic is also great for people you -know- you're gonna be fighting, foes you see in the distance, etc. Just lay out all these traps and you have a killing ground.

Bombs are super cheap, too. Letho was just kicking my tail on Hard, until I finally reverted to an earlier save, made about 50 Grapeshot bombs, then resumed the plot. All I did was toss up a Quen and then lob bombs at him. It took about 30 or 40, but I didn't take a lick of damage in the meantime.

Also, "Red Haze" is lovely, lovely, lovely. It's an AOE Axil sign that causes instant chaos in groups of enemies. Don't waste it against a single foe, but against groups, it's hilarous.

For fans of Igni, don't overlook Dragon Dreams.

Like I said, this is cheap cheap stuff, but it's not cheating. Red Haze is one of my special favorites.

amazon3607: OK, I am 57 years old. it took me 2 years to finish The Witcher 1. This is the only PC game I have EVER played. I have total respect for the crew that developed The Witcher. I own a business, I have a life. the Witcher became a part of my life in my "down time".

I want to start this thread for those of us who are PC game dummies.

I am stuck in the prologue on the bridge with the King Foltest in my arms and the Dragon kicking my ass on the bridge. any suggestions?
Great to see that I'm not the only one who takes forever to play a game. I'm 60 and love playing RPGs. I suppose I get the most for my money as it takes me so long to play through. So far I've played for about 40 hours and still haven't beaten the Kayran! Just wish the RMB would work through the cutscene because that's driving me insane!
Thanks hulahula32 for taking the time to create your hints.

Well, I am still unable to run away from the dragon. It is like I am running in slow motion. I watched a YouTube video of the scene, and it is completely different from my dragon. My dragon is always breathing fire , and no matter how fast I hit the s button, Geralt is moving slowly and gets fried every time.

I have installed the patch, and have mouse at the highest setting.. I may go buy a new mouse.

The reason this us so weird is that I had no problem up until this point, I am playing on easy, and all of the fights and tasks were almost too easy until this point. I am not in a hurry (haha)

Is there a way to delete saved games?
On my machine the path for the gamesaves is C:\Users\(my name)\Documents\Witcher2\gamesaves. Your path is probably similar. Unfortunately, there is no name attached to the saves and there seems to be a larger and a smaller file type for each save. I delete by timestamp if that helps any.

He's doing it wrong.

You don't move to the side. You just move forward, nothing else. Keep pressing the S key, never stop pressing it. Only press your mouse key when it QTE flashes on. Even while you press your mouse button, you are still hold S. When you know the dragon will breathe fire and you want to move to the right, don't. Geralt will do that for you, just keep pressing S. Geralt etc will hide and whatever when he gets to that point, just keep pressing the S key.

I guess what I dont understand, is what key should I press? I wish the game was more clear about this.

Yup. He did the right thing there from around 9th minute onwards.

Well the change in camera angle is confusing if it's your first playthrough. S corresponds to moving southwards/downwards so yeah that is the key you press. QTE's are self-explanatory.

Yes, Im afraid I was just making a bad joke. Hulahula's post was quite clear on the matter. ;)
I noticed that if you die many times and keep trying, the number in the swarms become less.

During the Malena quest where you are swarmed by 15-20 nekkers and die, if you keep redoing this quest the amount of nekkers drops considerably. Those 15-20 nekkers became only 4 after I died quite a few times.

Has anyone else noticed this type of thing? This isn't the first time it has happened to me. It has also happened when doing the quest when those big, red, crab-like things (I cannot spell that monster's name which starts with an "E") drop down from a stone tower. I also died alot there too.
Great thread! 53 year old female gamer here. Last night while I was trying to kill the nekkers in the cave I could have sworn every time I died and went back there were even more of them! I am going to try a few of the ideas that have been mentioned here. Thanks!
