Hi,
Just bought a new pc - Windows 7 64bit, Intel i7 2600k overclocked to 5GHZ with H70 cooler, 2x 2gb HD6950s in crossfire, 8GB Vengeance RAM and TX 850Watt PSU all on a p67 Sabertooth Motherboard using a 24inch HD Acer monitor.

I have bought the Witcher 2 and its running fine, average 62 frames per second on high but only getting around 28 on Ultra which i though would be much higher. On the menu screen, if i select the 'recommended configure' option, it always auto selects LOW???

I have updated the latest patches and sure something is wrong.
Any thoughts?

I know the system is ok as got over 200FPS on Crysis
Given that most auto-detect programs have to take into account a lot of different variables and system configurations it's very rare that they ever give a totally accurate estimation of your computers capability - I think most people who own a gaming PC have enough sense to customize their settings and ignore any auto-detect feature because they are almost always terrible.

So just ignore it - you can play the game on high settings despite flaws in the auto-detect feature, so what's the problem?
Also, übersampling will bring your 6950s down. If you put everything at max except übersampling, I bet your performance will still be awesome.

Xfire might give you a little trouble, but I doubt it since you say all is good on High.

The main difference between the High and Ultra defaults is that Ubersampling is on by default with Ultra. Turn it off.

You should then see equal performance on Ultra.

(You could also probably increase the Texture Memory Size, which I think is Medium even on Ultra defaults. Might boost fps even more.)
Thanks guys, Turned the Ultra settings on and Uber off and all is good. Getting 51-54fps on FRAPS and im happy with that. :)
Yea turned ubersampling off. You would have to look mighty hard to notice any difference in graphics. The eye candy is minimal to accept the reduction in frame rate.
Try setting Texture Size to Very Large too, might give you a few more FPS.

Hey, as Hazey and I suggested, bump up your Texture Memory. You have good cards. I bet you hit 60+ FPS with higher Texture Memory.

And glad you can now enjoy the shiny!

Just a little trivial stuff. I am dual Booting ( two separate Hdds ) Vista Home Premium and Windows 7 Home Premium. Install the gam in both. Auto check gave me Ultra in Vista and Low in Windows 7. Go figure.

Maybe because of RAM requirements which keep goin up, up, up?
Kind of weird as i have 1 6950 2gb and getting 30-40 fps on ultra?

Not to be redundant, but do you have Ubersampling turned off?

Also, increase Texture memory.

What chipset and ram do you have?
no i don't, i have uber on, its set to ultra i havn't had any problems and its sapphire and fraps says thats what i'm getting and it feels like it too

my texture memory is on large or the ultra setting....

Maybe I misunderstood your reason for posting. If you are happy with the frame rate, that is good.

If you turn Ubersampling off, but keep all the other Ultra settings, you will not notice a difference in quality; you will get significantly higher fps, though.
Sorry, i'm just finding it weird, when i have the same card as other people, or they have better systems, that there frame rate is low, i do suffer when in big fights like in the battle for Vergen but apart from that, everything is fine.

Anyway i won't post about this anymore, if it helps i have not updated my drivers, its the stock disc drivers...
