and made more of witcher 2 but Episodic?

they could be expansions for the first game. i think that would be cool. cheap addons that continue the story and keep the fanebase strong. but i know many of you will rather want a full length game, to keep HL2 episode 3 from happening.

what do you guys think.

this is purely a what if.

They're already pulling a "valve time" with the patch.
That being said, they promised "expansions", which pretty much fit into the "episodic" area.

expansions dont mean episodic, it could just fit in between events, or it could just be things like Bard, the saviour of queens (oh PLEASE yes, i want to put it on easy so it plays it self :D lol... jk)
It could work. Build one large area and set a chapter inside it with loads of quests and moral choices. Only problem I forsee would be if they made W3 and you could port your character into it. Which character would you port. 1 from end of W2 or last episode? If you didn't play these episodes would they impact on the sotry of W3 adversely if you didn't buy them? Therefore episodes might need to be stand alone.

not necessarily. since they would probably be around 15$ each there would be no point not to buy :D.

they continue the story, fallowing your paths and can have 1 chapter per episode, a better value then the original game. leading into W3

I'm actually in favour of episodic content.

Half the time for developing a new game comes from designing an engine. This new Witcher 2 engine has years and years left in it.

I'd gladly pay for a whole new area with new monsters/collectibles/characters/quests etc.

Look at AC: Brotherhood - used the same engine as AC2 (with a few tweaks) and gave us a lot of content in a short time.
as long the quality is high, I would buy any new content they release.

but that also raises the question. should it be episodic or a full game?

That depends entirely on the amount of content, I guess.

A full game RPG needs a minimum of 40hrs play time in it (including main quest and side quests) but episodic could simply involve one big quest (i.e Geralt visits a city with caves/mountains/forests around it and does quests fighting monsters in those areas and political machinations in the city).

I'd imagine it's not THAT hard creating quests/cut-scenes if you don't have to work with a new engine all the time.

Seems to me that Geralt was meant to be more of a nomadic problem solver like the Littlest Hobo instead of a political pawn.

:( oh not valve quality?
not fabric quality mate =D
I was thinking about Dragon Age Origins mostly, as an example of bad DLC.

the way i see it, it should be, Time/Price ratio

this game is 3 full towns (not including prologue and epilogue) each town being a chapter.
if they made an episode a whole town (a huge town hopefully) with may quests pricing it at 15$, and they make 3 then that all together would be 45$. put the 3 together and you get a full games length. then you can say they did a good job.
I just hope there will be a big expension before the year ends :)
If I had ever really seen much convincing evidence that "episodic" content was actually episodic, and not simply code for "inferior expansions", then maybe. In valve's case, those episodes take so freaking long to put out, its hilarious to call them episodic, and when they do come out finally, they cost the same as full expansions traditionally cost, and never satisfy for length. Are they nice little mini adventures? Sure. But for the price and how long it takes to make them, I dont see the value.

No, all in all, I suspect if you're working on expansion material at all, it doesn't take *that* much longer to put together something more substantial. I'd rather they just take their time, and put together something really meaningful, like Throne of Bhaal, and charge a fair expansion price for them, like 30 bucks or so.

I don't want to see nickel and dime-ing us with quickly churned out DLC garbage a la Mass Effect 2 or Dragon Age. TW2 was crafted with love. I dont want to see it sullied with expansion content that is anything less. Take your time, make it count, I say.
