Ok this is awesome...

I go to my gamesaves folder to see how many saves I have, first I notice that all my saves have the portal 2 image as an icon, I don't question it and think that it's normal since i'm using portal 2 icons all over my pc to replace my original ones( my computer, thrash bin, ect...)

now i wanted to see an image of one of my saves and accidently clicked on a save file and guess what...it opened my portal 2 game...lol

I mean how weird is that...I click on a witcher 2 save and it opens up an entirely different game...

awesome.

Sounds like you may have overdone it just a tad. :-)

happened to me too, has something to do with the save game format. Portal 2 recognizes the format of TW2 save file and when you click it, it launches the game. Confused me at first!
Easy to explain:

Valve uses the .sav file extension since years, I always had a hl symbol with it as it seems that steam or any valve game always "steals" the usage rights. :p

haha, genius.
any idea how to fix this? all of my tw2 files show up like that as well.. even when i download save files. at first i thought is was because of all the mods i was running so i removed them and tried, nothing. next i completely erased all of my save files for tw2, started a new gamed windowed and saved.. portal 2 quick save appeared. here is a screen shot for others that have this issue and does anyone know how to fix it?

It's because Windows has associated the sav extension with Portal 2.

That shouldn't be a problem as you shouldn't be clicking on the save anyway.

If you still want to try to "fix" it, and you're using XP by the looks of it, then in WIndows Explorer go to Tools, Folder Options, Files Types and find the sav extension and change it back.

My memory of XP is fading, but I'm pretty sure that's correct.

Again, I don't see the point of doing this, but it's up to you.

Honestly there's really nothing to fix. Just don't double click on save files.
It is annyoing when Companies register generic file extensions for themselves another very good example is VLC with .bin files... I love linux for using the MIME type to determine which app should handle a file ;)

On Windows 7 or Vista open a command prompt with admin rights (type cmd in the startmenu searchbox right click>run as administrator)
In the commandline:
assoc

#write down the complete and correct .sav line

assoc .sav=

ftype $assoc_sav=
#(replace $assoc_sav with what assoc showed for sav files (the part after the =))

Et voila .sav freed from evil portal
And on a similar problem: Skype is annoying as hell because it binds port 80 and 443 to bypass firewalls while everyone knows all ports below 1024 are reserved...
