I think it is normal for any company that released or hired some of their staff, their staff leave for personal / undisclosed reason, doesn't share the same ambition with the company anymore, fired etc. It happen everyday, and CDProjekt is no exception. By no mean it is an indication of another fallen legacy or sort, too early to say that.

Too bad...I think he did a great job! Gonna miss him. I hope he will return some day.

AudreyWinter: Is this a joke?!!?!?!?! :-O
hmm...I have mixed feelings on that one. A Great job...well...need to know more, but tw2 had a few holes so not the success it should have been in my opinion. given the initial release I wouldn't be surprised if he was burned out. Read the interview. Didn't seem to say a lot there, but given the fact he had left, its not surprising I guess

Zhijn: ^Yes, i might have paniced and jumped the gun for a sec there, not knowing what he worked with on TW2.

According to this poster (top):
http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/13/index/5214483/325

He was in PR and Marketing with Witcher 2, so might not effect the gameplay at all for future projects. =)

But i still wish him the very best whatever he decides to do next. He was the face (pr) of the witcher for certain.
Well that explains why he was the "Face" of the franchise since that is what PR and Marketing guys do...show their product to the public

While he is a valuable asset, much prefer a marketing guy leaving over a lead designer or coder.

boozee: my question is why did he leave?
avatar
Kicek11: Personal reasons, i still can't believe it :< I hope he'll be back to CDPR...
Well PR / Marketing job title will require lots of travelling. Have to pretty much be at all the game conventions to show the product etc. He probably has a wife and kids and got tired of the travelling.

Here is GameBashee's review with Tomek Gop after he left CD Projekt:

http://www.gamebanshee.com/interviews/103561-the-witcher-2-assassins-of-kings.html

And some more words from Tomasz:

http://www.neoseeker.com/news/16704-witcher-2-senior-producer-tomasz-gop-leaves-cd-projekt-red/

Gop tells us, "Well, one thing is... just me. I decided to change things that connect with my personal life. Like, for example, time I spend at work. So I'll probably seek something more predictable. Other thing is RED. I was a Producer, not Project Lead. So I'm quite sure [the] guys will handle things easily even without me."

thekingcasper: most people are saying this will cripple the xbox release/game .. yay
It's not a yay, the game was already designed with consoles in mind, if they can't release it on xbox all of these efforts will be in vain, the company will not gain a good portion of income they expected to get and it'll be more likely that we'll see a pc game designed with more consolish features than this one instead of less consolish features and more effort put into console version. Don't get me wrong, i love the game, it deserves an at least 93-94 in my opinion but it's just that i liked the fighting system of The Witcher more, which made me feel like it was a game definitely developed pc gaming and pc gaming only.

This is a copy of a message Tomek Gop posted on Gamasutra -

" Hi, just a quick note from me. I did in fact leave CD Projekt RED. The Witcher 2 X360 is in works and shaping up good - I'm a producer, not project lead so I'm still quite confident guys will make it. My reasons were mainly personal - we're still friends with CDP and there's no bad blood.
About leaving the industry... though possible, I wouldn't bet it. It's addictive... :) "
Gop just needs a stiff drink of Temerian Rye and a week's worth of lap dances from Triss. He'll be back in fighting form before long.

Agree :)
You know, maybe he's just so much of a witcher fan himself, he finally wants to play a game for once, get surprised for once, instead of producing it and knowing every tiny bit of the game by heart - and not even in chronological order. :)

Gop is looking for a new job if not mistaken proof from the linkedin profile. (courtesy of witchervault).

It is either Gop left unhappy (some unforeseen stuff should have happened, but no one knows) or Gop wanted to try something else.
perhaps his departure and the recent lack of communication by cdred are no coincidence?
When more money start rolling strange things start grooving .... Just hope this game will live trough.

What does your wild conjecture have to do with my humorous comment?

How does looking for a new job after leaving another point to unhappiness? It only says that he wasn't gonna slack off, but keep working. Just not for CDPR anymore, because he needs a more predictable 9 to 5 job instead of working all insane hours (not my conjecture, he said so himself). "Personal reasons" likely points to family... not gonna start assuming myself here, but you can fill in the blanks yourself.
