I'm trying to get The Witcher 2 running decently for whenever I beat the first game. The problem is that when I open the tutorial quest, I quickly realize that the game suffers from having a poor framerate.

When I first launched the game, I used the config tool to auto-detect the best settings, for which Medium Spec ended up being selected. I tried going through some of the support pages here on GOG.com and uninstalled the 3D Vision Driver & Controller, but it didn't seem to help any. My computer does pass the requirements needed for the game, according to CanYouRunIt.com

Any suggestions on how to get The Witcher 2 running more smoothly would be greatly appreciated!

My video card is an nVidia GTS 250 with the 285.79 beta drivers installed. Below is the rest of my system information.

I've noticed that it skips frames only when Geralt is moving around. During cutscenes and stuff, there isn't a problem.
mmm My mistake...
Try to defrag the disk, and do not keep all the save games the game create.

I've got almost the same setup -- only 32-bit Vista instead of 7, and the GTS 250's direct ancestor, the 8800 GTS 512. Same CPU.

I get medium settings, frame rate stays consistently over 30, but only on reduced resolution (1440x900). G92 cards don't quite have the muscle to play this game well at full resolution.
Unfortunately, The Witcher 2 is a demanding game and doesn't scale amazingly well. You'll need a more modern video card to get playable framerates, though there are few computers that can run it at a constant 60 fps to begin with.
What does the ideal computer for running this game look like?

I just finished the first game for the first time tonight and I want to start on the second, but given the current playability problems that it has, it's going to be tough. I may just as well wait for it to be ported to consoles or something.
I suggest buying the GTX560 Ti. It's one of those cards that gives you great value for your money. It's a better decision then playing such a highly regarded PC game on a console. ;)

I also would head to one of those video tutorials on how to setup on video settings. Running auto detection is probably a bad idea no matter the system you have. Customized settings always gives a better performance/eye candy ratio that will suit your own needs.
I did as you suggested, Nirth_90. Thankfully, nVidia had a tweak guide for The Witcher 2 on their GeForce.com site. The guide they offered seemed to smooth things out a bit, and I'm having a better time with the game.
