shadowguard: TW1 is became playable only after release of Enhanced Edition.
Sorry but that's the facts.
avatar
Coelocanth: 'Facts'? I played through and completed Witcher 1 long before they released the EE. Hardly unplayable.
Everyone has different criteria.
If the first part was good there would be no Enhanced Edition for free.
avatar
shadowguard: True.

Such a delay (yesterday at the official website they said that the patch release is a matter of hours) indicates that there are more bugs than they originally thought. Which isn't good.

avatar
Nilth: No, tw1 was perfectly playable after the 1.2
And tbh I think the news on the site was referring to the "few hours of server issues" due to the upgrading, not the release of the patch.
actually they make mention of the patch specifically, but now that i take it the way you said it it seems they are getting the servers ready to receive the patch. they dont want a repeat of launch day problems.

you dont know that, you re pulling this from your ass. the game was playable and beatable, but they made it better. many games in the past have made playable (and good) games better for free.

Just pointing out your use of the phrase "Sorry but that's the facts". You can't claim it was a 'fact' the game was unplayable when it could easily be played and completed before the EE was available. Maybe you didn't particularly like it, but that doesn't mean it was unplayable.

Apologies, I know it's nitpicking, but I hate hyperbole.

unplayable - in the sense that it could (and SHOULD) be better ... ok?...which was confirmed by the release of EE.

Not really. By that criteria every game is unplayable. Even the Witcher EE could be better. Again, sorry for nitpicking, but look at it this way:

if someone that's never played the Witcher asked about the original release of the game, and you said "It's unplayable. Fact", they're going to think there's some sort of game-breaking bug (or several) that would prevent you from completing the game. I doubt anyone would conclude you mean it could be improved.

Witcher 1 is the only game that I've not played when it came out (alongide with Gothic 3). That's a fact;)...So, yes, Witcher 1 had game-breaking bugs for me.

EDIT:
And I hope that the following two patches will correct TW2 so I do not have to wait for new EE.

In all fairness, Witcher 1 had an above average number of bugs reported by many reviews several of whom said that it turned what would have been a classic into a "flawed classic". Many did report difficulities getting through the game due to the bugs. Although not, "unplayable" technically. In part it comes down to patience. Certainly Witcher 1 (first release) had more bugs then, say Baldor's Gate, or Dragon Age 1 upon their initial releases. So you are both correct, although for a persistant person like me the bugs wouln't have been unplayable, but irritating. If you want REALLY buggy try "Temple of Elemental Evil". some serious problems in there that never really got fixed. (volunteer people are still working on it apparently for the sake of the game.. what passion!) For others, the patience/persistant may not have been there. Witcher 2 is reported to have fewer bugs than Witcher 1 upon the initial release (leading to somewhat better reviews overall. Testing things as complex as a game like Witcher 2 (or even witcher 1) is not a trivial matter. I have some bones to pick with CDP in other areas but I can tolorate bugs as long as they are fixed and I can get the fixes without undue hoops.

Incidently, "2 patches"? I thought only one was announced....so far....did I miss something?

they indirectly confirmed 3 patched by commenting that the Aspect ratio fix will be coming no later than patch 3.

I said "2 patches" because devs said aspect ratios other than 16:9 will not be resolved in 1.1 patch.

And I thought I can finally start playing it :-(

ETA to Wednesday evening
Michał Kiciński

Guys,

Good news. Patch 1.1 is soon to be released! Test are in progress.
Current ETA is Wednesday evening (Europe time)

Please expect major improvments:) and solution for most of the problems. Including:

- activation/installation problems
- better performance (owners of retail version will notice the biggest difference)
- no more DLC download/activation problems (Troll DLC will be INCLUDED in the patch itself, so
no need to download and install it)
- Nvidia 3D vision problem solved
- invert mouse and keyboard mapping

and many more:-)

To be sure that all people will have an access to this patch there will be option of manuall download and installation.

Sorry 4 all problems, we will work hard to be sure that eventually all of you will be fully satified!

Michal
CDP RED
PS. Once this patch is in the tests right now, we already have started working on the next one in which we want to solve some more issues, including hardware specific problems (ie. g35 compatibility). Patch 1.1 seems to be very major one, but still if you don't find your problem on the list, there is a big chance that it will fixed soon in next patch. And we will really do all this ASAP.

Oritxupolite:
Hmmm, owners of the retail version will see the biggest performance increase. I assume that means SecuROM will be tweaked to no cause as much slow down. I hope there are a few noticeable performance tweaks in general as well. This combined with the ATI hotfix around the corner, should be good times!
