I think it feels a little short because it was so good. You just wanted to keep playing on - at least I did. When the ending came around - it felt like there was room for more in-game content, yes ( DLC & possible expansions) and absolutely, certainly room for a whole new sequel.

In this I think the developers succeeded - I mean, if the Witcher 3 was suddenly announced tomorrow, I'd certainly buy it in a flash because I want MORE.

nah it really was a game that ran out of steam... i mean 3 chapters? each one got progressively smaller too... chapter 1 was a great size, chapter 2 was a little smaller, 3 was TINY and the epilogue was insignificant in its size.


if this game was THE WITCHER, it would have been great. a good length, good story, good everything...

but at the end of the day, cdp screwed up... they set the bar impossibly high by coming out of the starting gate with their first game being virtually perfect... its no surprise they couldnt top it, and while this game is fantastic, its always going to be compared to the superior original game.

face it... we were all totally and utterly spoiled with the first game...

I have to say that I don't really agree. Yes, the first game was longer but that game also felt mercilessly drawn out at times, and padded with lots of fedex quests. Chapter IV for example really added very little to the main storyline until the end and felt like filler. Chapter III in TW2 is weak but at no time during that game did I start to get bored, something that is not true while I played TW1.

HUH? The game is easily 40 hours first time through, and no other game warrants at least 2 play throughs like this one. The first one was longer only because of generic filler content like fetch quests. Tw2 has little if any filler quests. Game is long enough by todays standards.
Chapter 2 is as long if not longer then 1, especially if you take iorveth;'s path. Try again.

I'm having trouble beating the first game after playing through the second game. The Witcher 2 cuts out all of the fat and improves on the first game in many ways...except for maybe the inventory system.

Just remember this, quality trumps quantity every time.

along with the fat they cut out the interesting story, the atmosphere and the sense of journey and exploration.

not saying the game doesnt have these things, but the first game did them so much better. i will give you that witcher 2 was definately tighter and told its story better though.

TW1 has quality and quantity...TW2 cuts out some of the fat, but the fat can be pretty good too. Without many side quests, the world just doesn't seem as immersive.

TW1 had lots of quests where you go monster hunting. This is one area that could have been improved on. There weren't nearly as many monsters in this game as in the first and only maybe one or two postings outside inns for contracts. I didn't think the weapons or armor were that epic either..seemed like they were just tossed in there. Also, drinking has mostly been taken out entirely along with most random female encounters--besides whores lol. I can't get over the drinking part..whats a witcher game without being able to get fucked up on some Temerian Rye or Dwarven Ale? And they rub it in too when the dwarves are all talking about drinking but you can't do anything or have any drinking games. I also think the alchemy was much better, like with bombs and potions, I thought TW1 did this better (besides the meditating and drinking before fights part which is better). The traps and lures however are a good improvement.


Not a lot of the sidequests in TW1 were basic fedex quests...A lot of them were actually pretty deep and added a lot to the game. There really were no characters like, for example Thaler or Carmen/Vincent Meiss in TW2. Most of the characters in TW2 didn't add much and didn't make you feel involved. There weren't many at all that I really cared about.

Disagree. I think both Roche and Iorveth were very well realized. But, ya, Geralt does deserve a good stiff drink once in a while..............

I agree with everyone who says that the game is too short and lacks a rich content that was found in W1. This was one of the most disappointing things, aside of a very unsatisfying ending (the whole 16 endings issue is bs). I know there will be dlcs and add ons, but buying a rather costly game for my standards just to complete it in 30 hours and then wait for add ons feel like buying a ticket for movie that ends after 30 minutes with a promise of seeing the rest after some long time. I don't buy quality > quantity bs, too. If it comes to great, nearly flawless game, I want good quality and plenty of quantity.

I was more talking about the side people. Roche and Iorveth indeed are well realized ..but only a bit moreso than Siegfried and Yaevinn. TW1 had characters like Shani, Raymond, Leuvaarden, Berengar, Adda, Abigail..TW2 doesn't have many memorable characters because you really aren't involved with people except for maybe one quest. The sorceresses could have been but they slacked on their character development.

Agree. Maybe it was a function of the plot? The only other character that was deep might have been Loredo.

The Scooby gang (Zoltan, Triss, and Dandelion) were well done, also.

Aye they were...The Dandelion/succubus quest was great as well as the Vergen assault , ROFL the scooby gang :D

And yes you are right about Loredo..he did seem to piss me off almost like the professor. Henselt sorta as well. But there was something about that dang professor that really made me want to kill him lol he kept shitting in my apple pie I guess you could say. TW2 doesn't have the kind of characters that seem to always get in your way and builds up your anger towards them. Letho almost achieves this but not quite there. Letho's assassins could have had a better back story and more personality/involvement.

The sorceresses were the shadows of them in the books. Especially Philippa, who was far more morally ambiguous and less craving for the power - don't forget she believed in the fate and helped Ciri in the end. Canon Philippa's wouldn't be fooled by Letho or Cynthia and would probably help Geralt or Saskia for the sake of fate or destiny. Canon Sile wouldn't be there in the first place since she didn't give sh*t about politics and would be the last person on the Witcher's planet to flirt with Geralt, lol. I find Dandelion more or less OOC, too. At least dwarves were given their justice. On the other hand, Triss... meh.

Generally, CD Projekt is better at creating their own characters (Roche, Iorveth, Saskia) than re-creating those from the books. I don't want to see Yennefer being ruined like the sorceresses, so I am not looking forward W3, characters presenting speaking.
