OK, so the latest buzz on the net is that using the Witcher2.exe file from GOG version of the game in retail (boxed) version of the game increases the fps/loading times. It is true, but there were also some mixed signals from CDP about the possibility of the game being messed up after some time of using that exe file.
Could we get clear answer here? Is it safe to use that exe file with boxed copy? The boost is really substantial (for me it's 12fps on average) so it would be great if we can get a straight and reliable answer here...

Ehhh, the lack of official Witcher 2 forum to post stuff like that is simply pathetic...
If you get an FPS boost it's because of the securom on the retail version, most likely

It should not be that bad though, that's wierd
I know that. And it really is a huge boost, check it out by yourself. On retail exe I have 30fps on average, now I'm getting 40 and more. I really hope that they will remove the protection as soon as possible on retail version. The game has been on warez sites for couple of days already and basically now it's the legal owners who got a shaft and are playing subpar version of the game. Really, really lame approach by CDP.

I sincerely doubt many of us GoGers are going to buy the retail version, just to check this out.

;p
There are also people here using retail version of the game, don't know which one he is :)
Hi GOG, just registered and hopefully will be buying some games soon :)

Anyway, I have the boxed copy and was curious about the benefits (I need all the benefits I can get lol). So I searched for the GOG exe and after finding one and trying it, I didn't see any difference with my framerate with the 1 save I loaded. Well, there was a difference of 1 (39 vs 40fps), but that might have just been caused by something. The biggest difference though was the improved load times, both when launching the game and loading my save file.

Not CDP. Blame the publishers.
