Hello, I have some questions about the best gear Geralt can have. Somewhere I read that this would be Elder Blood Boots, Elder Blood Trousers, Elder Blood Gauntlets, Vran Armor, Addan Deith, Operator's Staff. Howerver I have no idea AT ALL where to get any of those things. If someone could say this I would appreciate that. Also, I'm on Iorveth's path, so I won't be able to get the Operator's Staff. What is a good alternative? Thx
All the elder gear and Vran armor can be obtained on Chapter 3. Not sure about the rest
I only got most of those items in Chapter 3 . All the elder blood stuff is diagrams which i found mostly as rewards to side quests and exploration in the chapter. Vran Armor, again Chapt 3. Most (if not all) of these things are diagrams which you need to craft.

As for the operator's staff, i was on Iorveth's path too, so no idea what this staff is? Is it a sword or what? In chapt 3 i got probably the best swords in the game [silver + steel] as side quest rewards. One i believe i had to craft, the other was a side quest reward .

I would imagine Caerme is the next best steel sword. Also you can get the Operator's Staff even if you picked Iorveth, you just gotta make sure to find the notes before moving forward in the main quest. All of the others you will find if you do the gargoyle contract in Loc Muinne. Except for Vran Armor. Not sure where you get that from.
Addan Deith you find as a sword, the Elder Blood set and the Caerme as diagrams.

Mystic River quest, if you followed that quest in Act 1 and 2, then you have the key to a chest in the sewers, in that chest is Vran Armor diagram.

Crap, must've missed the chest. Got the key though.
Ah well, gotta get it on the next playthrough.

I thought Caerme is the best steel sword (the schematic was guarded by one of the toughest son of a bitch in the game too). I was a bit let down when I found out getting the whole Elder Blood set doesn't give you additional bonuses. At least I got to change out of my mage trousers.

As to Operator staff, don't worry about it too much. It works as a steel sword but it is an alternative weapon it has pretty sweet additional effects but you can't use acrobatic attacks with it.

Do you find Addan Deith also in Chapter 3? It all seems a bit useless to me, since you dont have that many fights there. Oh well, here's hoping for a huge expansion pack in a few months :)
Yes, you find Addan Deith in chapter 3, in one of the chests related to the gargoyle quest.

Also the most useless sword if you didn't save ingredients from act-fucking-one.
Ha ha ha, sorry but that sounded (readed?) funny... and sad at the same time...

Haven't got there so I dont know if I have what it needs too... hmm.

Without giving too much spoilers, don't sell any ingredients labelled as "Quest item".
Ok, got it!.

I would say the forgotten vran sword is (slightly?) better than caerme

Caerme
DAMAGE 50-58
Steel sword
Vitality regeneration +2
Oil duration +100%
Chance of instant kill +4%
Sockets: 2

Forgotten Vran Sword
DAMAGE 50-55
Steel sword
Vigor regeneration +1
Freeze +20%
Chance of instant kill +2%
Vitality regeneration +2
Sockets: 3

The extra socket, and freeze effect more than makes up for the slightly lower damage. I personally don't use oils in the game much. Of course if you prefer the 2% extra in instant kill rate...

The only significant advantage worth mentioning for the operator staff is the +40% stun, really. If you add runes onto either of these two swords, they are going to surpass that staff damage wise, and if you want critical effects, your build is going to be centred around it anyways with +Crit mutagens, and having like +160% incineration might be a bit redundant...

- I got the Vran sword from the Nilfgardian camp

- each one of the Elder Blood set from the chests in the Gargoyle quest (there's 3 chests)

- the Vran armor in the sewers near the talking portal. You'll need the chest key from the shipwreck in Chapter 1.

Good luck! :)
