This really isn't a complaint(since I can't say I'm having bad performance per se) so much as general curiosity. The game is running smoothly enough for me that I don't really notice any slowdown, but I don't understand why significantly lowering my settings doesn't net me any noticeable frames. Here's my specs:

AMD Phenom 2 Quadcore OC'd to 3.8Ghz
ATI 5850 with a mild OC
12GB RAM
Win7 64

So at the Ultra setting with Uber disabled I am around 25-50 FPS, I get roughly the same FPS at the High setting, and roughly the same FPS at Medium. Its rarely drops into the low 20's but is generally above 30, and I never actually see any noticeable chug. It may even spike as high as 60 regardless of setting. I am currently happily playing at Ultra Minus Uber and just wondering if anyone is having similar "issues".

Very much enjoying the game by the way.
Yeah, same here. It's just a lack of optimization from AMD/ATI, at this stage, I think. New drivers and/or patches should fix it soon.
My specs:
Intel Q6600@ 2,4gh
4gb ram
ATI 4870 1gb ram
1680x1050 monitor resolution
Win 7 32

Hardware detection says to play on High settings but framerate is inconsistent, it stays in the upper twenties most of the time with jumps up to 40. Tried disabling SSAO, AA etc. and enabled windowed mode, which maybe added 2-5 FPS..
Then I lowered my settings to Medum and the FPS stayed exactly the same which is quite ridiculous :D

I think there is a slight issue with the auto-spec. it says my Q6600 and 4650 1GB should be able to run on high, but that doesn't make a lot of sense, and i can barely get decent framerates on low at 1280 res

Well....I have Crossfire, 2 5870 Sapphire, started the game at Ultra, and would only get a miserable 10-15FPS at the game intro. Game was unplayable once in the siege camp...had to exit and lower to Medium...and I get still very sluggish framerate....never more than 40, normally 25. I'm very dissapointed to be honest....I have the latest ATI Catalyst drivers. The game looks fantastic, but I just can't believe I can't move it smoothly with 2 5870....

youre not alone and, for me at least, its not limited to just ati cards.

i use the area outside the tavern in flotsam as my benchmark/test area for fps.

no matter what my settings (everything off/low or everything on etc) i cant get more than 21fps whilst running around that little market square type area outside the tavern.

win 7 64bit
4gb ddr2
c2d e6600 2.6ghz
gtx 550 ti amp - 275.xx beta forceware
fraps used to check fps.
no background apps like AV etc.

very disappointing and killing my enjoyment.
hopefully ATI will make a fix before next year. The joys of pc gaming lol :P
I just found out that if I play on Ultra, with Ubersampling, SSAO and AA disabled, I get a slightly higher FPS than playing on High or Medium, how strange is that?

BTW,FPS on Low it's only around 10 FPS higher, ATI WAKE UPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!
I have the mobility version of the 5870 (Catalyst 11.5) and it runs at 45-60fps in woods/indoors and it hovers at around 30-35 fps during very crowded parts of the town. This is on High settings with AA and SSAO disabled and Vsync enabled.

!!!However, my FPS was shit until I used RadeonPro to make the game think its running on a Nvidea GTX465 as suggested by someone in another thread. I used to get horrible stuttering and probably 20-30 fps anywhere in the game!!!

How to do it:
Install RadeonPro.
Make a new profile for the Witcher2.exe in RadeonPro.
On the tweaks tab there is a section called Spoof Video Adapter ID
Check Enable and select Nvidia, and type 0x06C4 which is the GTX465 code thingy
On the advanced tab I checked Aniostropic and Trilinear optimization for good measure.

I tried that as well but none of the changes had any effect in the game's performance for me (on a Radeon HD5770) - and thus I'm still stuck with that 20-30fps stuttery performance unless I disable SSAO and lower the resolution, which results in varying fps between 25-45.
