My Nvidia 280 card overheated and died so I bought a 6870 card to replace it. While waiting for the 6870 to arrive I put in my old 8800 gtx card. Both Nvidia cards ran TW2 like a champ. (although I had to turn down the settings a bit for the 8800) This new AMD card is sluggish, choppy and slow with TW2, although with all other games they run fine.

I did update all the Direct X and Catalyst drivers. I followed the suggestions in the Sticky about running in lower res, windowed mode, disabling settings in Catalyst, etc. None of those has helped. Does anyone have ideas I can try to get this game back up?
If you have the possibility, re-install Witcher 2 and only patch it up to version 1.2 and see how performance is then. Judging by the various threads about it all over the net, some ATI/AMD users experienced a drop in performance when patching from 1.2 to 1.3. Interestingly not all, but more than enough to be something else than just isolated cases on some badly maintained systems.

Thank you. I'd forgotten about the game patches. I upgraded to the 1.3 patch before fully uninstalling the game and 1.3 fixed all the problems I had. I'm glad it was a simple fix, thanks again.
What made your 280 overheat?

I'd be pretty pissed, a 280 might not be the latest and greatest, but it's still got a few years left in it.

Did I understand you correctly when you said that patch 1.3 resolved your ATI card performance issues?

Yes, it fixed all my issues like a charm. I guess I'm so used to games auto-updating I got spoilt :)

Kleetus: It wasn't the first time it'd died. It started artifacting severely around the beginning of the year so I had to send it in for a replacement. It was a free service to get the new card, but the company (BFG Tech) is now out of business. Go figure eh?

Yeah, it was sad news when BFG left, they made great stuff and their warranty was awesome.
