When I try and play the disc the drive (the E drive) makes lots of wierd noises and then just acts like there isn't a disc in there at all. Is a problem with the driver for the DVD drive, or will I need to get a new drive fitted?

If any of this helps I have an acer aspire 5739G latop with a DVD- super multi DL drive.

I've checked and my old desktop can recognise the disc. Both the installation discs for The Witcher 2 are affected. I've checked The Witcher and its disc won't work now, whereas it did previously. Other games work fine.

You might try inserting another disc...preferrably dual layer in your laptop if it doesn`t recognize it either then you might look into purchasing another disc drive .

Did you just purchase TW2 or have it worked befor, did you check for scratches?.

Iv gone through a few dvd drives myself, and one of the few tells was these noises befor it would stop reading all discs. It would take longer to read discs, fail alot and one day just stopped working.

Could also just be dust that has build up, try blowing some air in see if that does anything.

This is a common problem with The Witcher 2 DVD, a lot of people have the same issue.

All you can do is try to copy the DVD to your desktop and install from there, or use another DVD drive.

Getting the disc replaced probably won't do anything, that's how they're stamped and some DVD drive's lasers have trouble reading them than others.

Crysis Maximum Edition had the same issue, and the only way to resolve it was to use another DVD drive.

If that doesn't work, then try to load a CD. The Game is on DVD, so if the CD works and tthe DVD doesn't then it is time for a new drive. CD and DVD work on two different wave lengths and if the DVD goes out, then you lose DVD bit CD will still work, or vice versa.

It has nothing to do with the registry and upper and lower filters.

There are numerous people with this issue, it's how the DVD's were stamped.
