So I need some more endrega teeth for the sword design and instead of hoping to randomly stumble on some I saw Cedric and got some lures, endrega glands, and placed it near the eggs I scrambled earlier but saw none. I meditated, nada.

I checked the manual but I don't think 'lure' is even in it at all. Anyone else used them successfully?

@Pioneer 161 Here how to use lures:

1) Obv you need the right lure for the right monster.
2) Place the best/proper one [if y see some red dots on map use your medallion to spot].
3 Stay on trap and place the lure so it will be right inside the trap.
4) Wait and smile some noob monster will come and fall into y trap thanks to the bait.

Hope this help

Does it work if there are no enemies around? Or is more of a distraction during combat? So far, it's not working.
I wonder about this as well. Are the lures more for tactical use, eg. combat or for practical use, eg. to acquire ingredients? So far, the lures do not seem to work. I've tried setting a snare and a lure within... to no avail.
So has anyone found out how lures work?
I tried using them outside of fights in "monster areas", no monsters appear.
During the fights, monster don't seem to care about them.
I tried combining traps+lures but it's hard to tell if it works - monsters wander into traps happily anyway if I'm on the other side of the trap.
Has anyone figured this out?
I tried using lures right next to the monsters nest, such as placing rotten meat right next to a nekker nest. I don't know if it is just my imagination because I want the lures to be worth something, but it seems to make nekkers spawn there and come out of the ground more than usual. I believe I also heard someone say you can attach bombs to them.
I had been looking for endrega teeth for the jagged sword and spent ages running round the forest of flotsam and rarely found a few beasts (I had finished both the nekker and endrega contracts). After looking at this thread I went and bought a suitable lure and trap. I set them up and nothing seemed to happen. Then I tried meditating for about a day, then I got interrupted and attacked my three an endrega and some scoia'tael.

It seemed to work really well, but only if I meditated next to it. Im going to try again to see if it works consistently or if it was a fluke.
Only time I used a lure, that worked really well, was when Geralt gets ambushed in the forest by a large group of scoia'tael. I ran from them, layed Yrden down to slow them down a bit, found a group of endregga's, set my endregga lure nearby, then stood a good distance away and watched the creatures kill over half of my pursuers. During this time, I'd set a conflagration trap to help clean up any scragglers.

Apart from that, I never bothered with lures. I understand that they could bring some interesting tactical advantages to the game, but there doesn't seem to be enough opportunities to use them effectively.
Very badly implemented IMO.
It would also be more helpful if the game actually had quests which required you to gather X number of monster parts. In which once you plop down a few lures, monsters will come swarming over and you get the required numbers quickly.
Lures should have been implemented in the prolpogue to teach you how to use them.

Lures and the Special Action key are a complete mystery to me.

I know what the Special Action key is for, I just can't believe they dedicated one of the best keys, F, for it.

It feels like it had more purpose/use originally, but was relegated to useless in the final product.
i suspect initially they had more complex hunting/ecology system witch was scratched the same like alchemy
yes, lures seems to be completely useless from start to end of the game, added with their weight... we got a list of well designed and different lures, but never in the game Geralt needs to use them, and i never feel the need to use one of them.

A pity, considering there is one type of lure for each monster type, and schematics...

Traps are not very useful, but they may help in some (rare) cases, like against endrega's queens, or maybe the Kayran (but with a single use, too bad ^^).
Lures are completely useless.

We may imagine more massive monsters spawn, and giving a use for lures, but in the present, monsters are not very numerous, and when is the case, they are pretty easy to beat, like nekkers...
Endraga teeth can be purchased from the village witch... can't remember her name. Just keep meditating until she replenishes her stock, or ttravel from the village to Flotsam, meditate and come back.

As for lures, I only used them once and it was pretty effective. I used it some distance away from the troll under the bridge and he ran to it immediately. I guess it only works when the monster is within visible distance.
