macspitter: Kayran is a joke - i am on my 4th play through (hard) and know how to kill it, but i have just been killed for the 15th time because it is so unpredictable.. This time i am using the trap to get my 47th steam achievement but keep getting killed when trying to use it. Last time i got killed as i (again) tried to set trap, and got so angry i smashed my headphones into several pieces on the floor!! Luckily they were not my G930s but an old cheap set!!!!! Ridiculous encounter - I got on it one time after cutting three tentacles but then the effing qte was different - it added a space bar prompt i didn't notice and i got thrown into the side of the bridge and died. never even had that before on a previous play through. At least its not as bad as the bomb under the car seat task in Mafia II - Joes Adventures
The space bar prompt is on difficulties of normal and above. If you played through on easy first, it makes sense that it would just show up. The Kayran is actually incredibly predictable. The QTE sequence will be the same every time for everyone on normal and above difficulties, and on normal you'll only have to left-click.

Wait for one tentacle to go up and attack, dodge out of the way, then get under it and set the trap/use Yrden as it pulls the tentacle back up. You just have to be patient and let it attack first so that you have time to do what you have to do while it's recovering.

Is the space bar prompt on normal and above? My impression was that you get that (spacebar to dismount and right click to mount) when "difficult QTEs" are turned on?

Does it disappear when you uncheck "difficult QTEs"? I've never touched that setting, so I wouldn't know. Was operating under the impression that it made the clicking QTEs require fewer clicks to pass.

If you are still have trouble, this guide in the wiki might help.

As the Duke Nukem (god bless his tortured soul for going through 14 years of development hell) said, "take those tentacles back to Japan you freak"

Yeah, the "difficult QTEs" setting controls the spacebar QTEs in this and similar "timing" QTEs in other places. It doesn't affect the "click to fill" QTEs; you still have to click like mad to aim the ballista.

Oh wait... you are right, if you're on Easy, you won't need to press the spacebar and right-clicking. On higher difficulties, you will have those 2 by default unless "difficult QTEs" are checked off...
