I solved all my random sounds not playing by forcing stereo and then using my sound card to virtualize surround sound.

Previously, on 5.1, some channels would randomly cut out and not start up again until I restarted the game.

Since the sound, for me, sounds exactly the same either way, this "fix" was fine.

Your mileage may vary.

Can't comment on your crashes as I don't have them.
thanks for the support, mate.
yeah, i have 5.1 sound system. on board realtek sound, BTW. how do i force stereo and use sound card to emulate surround?

i read these possible solutions but non of them helps me. none:

-- Download and install the English Language packs from the DLC game menu
(what? where? can someone link me to that thingy?)

-- Go to Start -> Run -> "DXDIAG" -> Sound tab -- and under DirectX Features drag the Hardware Sound Acceleration level from "Full Acceleration" to "No Acceleration"
( i am using win7. these options do not exist in my DXDIAG)

-- Go to Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> click the "Advanced" button under "Speaker settings" -> Performance tab -- drag Hardware acceleration from "Full" to "None" and you can also try the same for the Sample rate conversion quality (from Best to Good)
(again, in my win7 these options do not exist. where are they in win7)

-- Sometimes these issues occur when using 7.1 speakers or headphones / headsets...Running in a 5.1 configuration or even a 2.1 normal stereo configuration may help. (where do i configure this exactly?)

Note that you should try these steps one at a time and for those that require meddling with your computer's audio settings, be sure to revert them back to their normal state if they do not fix the problem.
What windows version do you have?
as i stated in the brackets in the post above, im using win 7.
Right click on your speaker icon in the system tray.

Select "Playback Devices".

Click (once) on the speakers that have a green check mark on them.

Click "Configure".

A window will pop up that says, "Choose your configuration".

Select Stereo.

Then select "Next" through the rest of the windows.

I'd test the sound in game at this point and see if it sounds alright.
