So after some trials and tribulations trying to get the game to install (including a driver reinstall), I finally succeeded and brought up the launcher. Hooray, I thought! Perhaps Witcher 2 will allow me to play the game I paid for, unlike Witcher 1 which required an entirely new computer with a CD drive that the copy protection would recognize!

I clicked 'Launch Game'. The 'Witcher 2 Launcher' icon appeared in the lower right corner of my screen for a minute... and then it went right back to the launcher popup, without actually launching the game at all. I tried running as administrator. Same thing. I tried running the .exe directly. I tried running it with different graphics settings enabled. No go. Finally, I tried running it with fullscreen disabled - and hey, it launched, but now I have my stupid taskbar at the bottom of the screen and I can't get it to go away.

For reference, I am running on Win7 64-bit, with 2 ATI 5870s running in Crossfire mode. 2560x1440 resolution.

Of course, performance is utterly miserable as well, but I think that's a more standard issue. So has anyone else run across this problem? Any idea how to run in fullscreen?

I bet its a cross fire thing and a fix with a new driver update??? Can you easily disable cross fire? Probably take forever for ATI to update it!!

If you read the readme file in your install directory:

- AMD still needs to add a profile for The Witcher 2 to the driver for its Crossfire chipsets. Until this occurs, you may experience reverse performance scalability on systems equipped with this chipset. If this occurs, it is recommended that you disable one of the GPUs on your system. We will post information on a fix for this issue at thewitcher.com/support FAQ as soon as AMD provides one.
- Some AMD cards may not allow you to play the game in fullscreen mode.

If you have "Ubersampling" enabled, disable it.
Same thing happened to me and it started when i disabled it.
Try pressing ALT+Enter when windowed, it should go full screen.
Sadly, alt-enter doesn't go into fullscreen.

I disabled Crossfire and am running in High graphics mode, and it seems runnable so far (though I haven't had time to work through much more than half the opening cutscenes so we'll see how it behaves when I actually hit combat). Sadly, even disabling crossfire doesn't let me run in full screen, so I guess we'll need to wait for AMD to fix shit. Sigh.

I have Anti-Aliasing set to 'Use application settings' already so I don't think it's that.
I am having the same issue on a GTX 580 so it isn't an AMD issue.

Disabling Ubersampling didn't work.
