I just tried it on ultra (everything on) at 1280x1024 on my very low end (for this game) system :

intel Q6600 @ 2.4mhz (obviously no OC)
4GB RAM
nVidia 8800 GTS (512 MB, no OC neither)
Win7

and it was *nearly* playable ( the bad part is that it was only *nearly* playable;). I didn't check the FPS but running around the city at the start I'd say somewhere between 15-20fps.
Considering the specs of my system I would say you should have much more.

EDIT: it did look beautifull by the way :)

EDIT2: After reading this thread, I tried it again on High Settings @ 1024x768 (I *need* to compromise somehwere), and it ran and looked great at a steady 25+ fps. As Firek said, the game's performance (at least on nVidia cards) is very impressive. Now to finish The Witcher 1 first ...

I think ATi drivers are not optimized for this game yet. Be patience, i'm sure they will release new driver soon.

GuntaFX: Specs:
Phenom X4 945 @ 3.0Ghz
8Gb
1Gb 5770
1920x1080

Really inconsistent ranging from 25-60 on more or less the lowest settings. Seems like it's an issue with ATI cards. The game does seem optimised for Nvidia cards but should there really be this much of a performance difference?
Roughly the same specs (slightly weaker CPU), at high without the 3 most demanding relative to their effect settings (AA, ubersampling, cinematic depth of field) stays mostly at 29-ish, dipping to low 20s or rising to mid-30s at points. The dipping happens so often that I wouldn't consider it "playable" at these settings.

Cutting out SSAO seems to provide roughly +7fps, and same goes for dropping the resolution from 1920x1080 to 1600x900. Lowering any other settings has barely any effect (~4fps combined at best)

Bleh, I was really expecting to stay smoothly above 30fps at High :/

Fuck yea nvidia!

desktoppirate: man, started it in high settings, looks like a pre-renderd cutscene, probably the best looking game ive seen art wise and technically. but when it comes to gameplay it turns into a slide show. i had high hopes i would be able to play with high settings but even with the res switched to 720p and most settings to medium i get around 25fps while in a fight. so yea, looks like ill be playing on low :( im also above recommended settings so this is quite disappointing. if anyone has any performance tips for myself or anyone else who might have trouble, please share

cheers.

Getting really poor performance on my gaming laptop.

Win 7 64bit

ati 5870

Can't even run the game at low without stutter. It's mind-boggling. Even with Uber off. I'm in the process of updating my drivers, hope it works. I'm running 11.1 atm.

I have the same specs as you (with an i5 though) and it runs fairly well on Catalyst 11.4 on High settings without AA and SSAO. Disabling SSAO helped a bit but I found that no anti-aliasing made the biggest difference.

Keep in mind that laptop video card is inferior that its desktop version. So mobility 5870 is not equal to desktop 5870.

Having a similar problem:

G870 (built on clevo W870CU)
17.3" 16:9 LED 1920 x 1080 X-Glass Screen
Intel® Core™ i7-720QM 1.60 GHz
4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666 RAM at 1333MHz
NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 285M 1GB GDDR3

That's my rig and I can usually max out most games fine. I realise that the Witcher 2 is far more demanding than the multiplatform games I usually play but I can't even get it to run at a decent pace on Medium settings at a lower res of 1600x900.

Ran Crysis 2 fine at High at full 1920x1080 and haven't had any problems with any other games. My GPU has given me similar performance to a desktop 260 in a lot of cases but nothing like that here.

Ah a fellow clevo user, how nice :)

I'm also having horrendous performane trying to run the game in my native resolution of 1680x1050, everything is set to low/disabled, fps goes from 30 down to 15... it's horrible.

What gaming laptop do you have kerrazy?

My computer's settings are similar to yours and I'm getting roughly 30-55 FPS

Win7 64
i7 820QM
8GB RAM
5870Mx2 (as far as I can tell the Crossfire doesn't make any difference)

Hi!

Curious your GPU 5870M, what nvidia desktop gpu is it similar to?

My performance usually outclasses the desktop 9800GT by a fair bit - done a few comparisons myself over the 18 months I've had this rig!

But still, we should really both be getting better FPS than this - weird how changing settings gives us so little boost.
I'm running on

Intel 2.4gb Quad
8gb Ram
Vista Ultimate
GTX485

Running smooth as anything, everything maxed with just ubersampling turned off. very pretty game :)
