Can someone please explain to me why when my broadband connection failed this morning I could not launch this game.

I thought the whole point of the games on this site was once you buy them they are yours to play without DRM or a constant need for an internet connection.

I am slightly puzzled and annoyed by this.

Could you be more specific? Did you get an error message, and if so, what did it say? Or did the game just not launch? Because I know I still have to click "Launch Game" multiple times just to get it to run on my computer from time to time. I will click launch game, I get the medallion, and then the launcher just pops back up.

Yes ok, I double clicked the games icon to start the game, the launcher came up but I couldn't select anything on it i.e. launch game options etc. Once my broadband issue sorted itself out and I was back online I was able to launch the game with no problems.

So clearly you need an active internet connection to play this game, which rather defeats the object of me purchasing it on here instead of from Steam.
Just bypass the launcher. Launch the game using the 'witcher2.exe' file, it's in the .../The Witcher 2/bin folder

OK thanks Namur that does get around the issue.

But unless people know this I'm sure many others will encounter the same problem.
No problem ;)

Yeah, the question has come up before and it's likely it will keep poppin up every now and again.

In regards to the launcher, i think it also verifies patch versions and whatnot to check if the game is up to date so maybe that's why sometimes it stalls without an active connection.
