My 6970 isn't sufficient... if you can max it, what is your config?
If by maxing it you're including Ubersampling, then nobody will.
One 6970 won't be enough with Übersampling turned on, though I'm suspecting that it should be enough without it.

I've got two 6950s running in Crossfire and with everything turned on (übersampling included) and at 1280x1024 the average FPS I get is 50 in the forest around Flotsam. The lowest was 25 FPS and the highest was 82. Now Crossfire gives about a 30% boost only so I'm pretty sure that at 2560x1600 the average FPS would be considerably lower using one GPU.

My specs are:
OS: Win 7 x64
CPU: i5 at 3,1 Ghz
GPU: 2x6950 Sapphire Dirt 3 ed (shaders cannot be unlocked, stock speeds, latest drivers)
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 CL9 at 1333 Mhz

Also on a 17 inch monitor at my resolution, Übersampling doesn't really improve the graphics by much. I did notice everything being a bit sharper, but it not worth sacrificing a fluent game for some sharper edges and lines here and there.

Although I have no idea how things would look on a screen with your resolution, maybe Übersampling would be more noticeable.
I get uneven FPS with everything at ultra (SSAO, Ubersampling and DOF disabled) at this resolution with a single 6970, although vsync is turned off.

Time to get a 22" mon.

I was actually planning on doing that. Though that'll only be 1080p, those 2560x1600 ones are bloody expensive.

On a completely unrelated and off topic note, I just (15 mins ago) figured out that unlike what reviewers stated, the Dirt 3 ed. 6950s can be unlocked. So I'm practically running a 6970 Crossfire setup baby :D

btw, the unlocked BIOS is installed by Sapphire, I just had to flip the BIOS switch.

@TigerLord, what kind CPU do you got? That can affect performance as well. I'm also sorry but I can't even imagine how performance should be on the resolution you're rocking, your best bet is that someone pops up with a similar setup to yours. Also with one GPU at that resolution you can forget Ubersampling, the game will just run like crap.
edit: oh yeah and V-Sync is mostly used to stop screen tearing (which I haven't seen TW2 do by the way), if the game is stuttering because of low FPS, than turning V-Sync on won't make a difference. In fact (I may be wrong about this) having higher FPS than your monitors refresh rates doesn't really make a difference. /edit

CDPR should have given TW2 a benchmark option, if Ubersampling would have been hyped like Crysis back in the days, we'd be making "but can it run TW2?" jokes about now.

You could also try the Steam and official forums, I'm sure someone there would pop up with who you could compare your performance.

So did the unlock improve anything?

einarabelc5: So did the unlock improve anything?
Okay, so here's what I did. Every setting was turned on except Ubersampling (and Dangling Objects Limit is off)

I'm since in chapter two so I couldn't compare performance with shaders locked (well I could, but I'm too lazy to take apart the case), but even with the shaders unlocked the performance gain should be minimal, if not the same.

So anyway, I'm in Chapter 2, in Dethmold's tent. I speak to him, run into the kings tent, than run all the way to the fire in front of the hookers tent.

-Without CrossfireX-
Stock speeds:
Min: 45
Max: 96
Avg: 69.541

OC to 6970 speeds:
Min: 46
Max: 103
Avg: 74.574

-Using CrossfireX-
Without overclocking the FPS were:
Min: 50
Max: 116
Avg: 86.4

With overclocking:
Min: 22
Max: 136
Avg: 89.699

To be fair, I think it went down to 22 because of my HDD, even though the game is on a WD black, the game simply stutters at some points when it has to load something fast. I'm fairly sure that if an SSD were to be used it wouldn't hit 22 FPS. In fact I just ran slower and you can see that the min for the stock speeds was 45-50 FPS ;-)

The temperatures remained the same.

If I have to guess, than I'd say that the 6970 should be able to keep it running around 30 FPS on the OP's resolution without having to turn down the graphics (or if need be, then not by much)

I also noticed screen tearing so turning v-sync on is a good idea if it bothers you.
