So, the reason i dropped $50 was for a DRM free copy... i just want some knowledge dropped on me about this automatic activation patch which did "something" and then decompressed some files and launched the launcher...

what is this, why did it happen and did i just get duped? i highly doubt it but i was not ready for some crazy extraness... I'm "assuming" it did a date check via my PC clock... but I'm not sure...

It's installing the day one patch.

Everyone else had to run an actual authenticator when pressing "Launch" that connected to securom servers blah blah blah.

but... if it needed to call out to the internet thats a form of DRM, meaning its not DRM free as stated when anyone bought it from GOG.com...

The day 1 patch doesn't require internet. Only the ones after that.

I installed it offline and it did the same thing, so it's definitely not calling out to the internet. I think what basically happens is that the GoG version has DRM like the others, but it gets stripped during the installation to be true to the whole "DRM-free" pledge. That's just speculation, of course.

Sir thats 100% confirmed... i tested various things and installs and settings, i watched the entire proccess and every reg entry and call it made, GOG delivered... yay!

and as i know it a year or so down the line or more it'll get a massive patch or a relaunch though gog DRM free with all patches updating the game ^_^
