I got The Witcher 1 here this summer but haven't played yet. I am installing it now but before playing I wonder what bonus content I can look at now without risking spoilers. I'm mostly concerned with the game guide and maps.

Is the guide a walkthrough or just general tips.
Is the map a spoiler or necessary to play the game.

I don't even want to peek at them, that's how much I hate being spoiled. I even stopped checking out the wallpapers after a few because I'd rather meet the game characters fresh without preconception.

I would avoid looking at the game guide and map, but definitely read the manual if you are so inclined. The game controls differently from most RPGs and it can be confusing if you don't read the manual first.

I also recommend reading the short story before playing. It's the first Witcher story, and it sets the stage for the game world pretty well (in fact it is referenced in the game's opening cinematic). No spoilers in there, just some nice background and scene-setting.

I always read the manual before playing a game unless the manual says not to do so and only to use it for reference. I find it really well done, it makes me look forward to the game. I would not have read the story but will do so now.

Thanks a lot.
