Hey all ! I just got a copy of the game from Blotunga (thank you!) and looking it over have two questions.

The game page says it's enhanced edition, but I didn't see any explanation of what that means. Could someone give me a heads up?

Looking at the stickied mod thread, I see it recommends the Flash mod for, among other things, bug fixes. Since apparently the mod was made in 2008 and we're entering 2014, are those bugfixes still needed or have they since been fixed? IOW, is the mod still recommended for a virgin play?
Enhanced Edition was a major major patch that was full of bugfixes and new expanded content. It's sort of unneccessary to say that on GOG because you almost always get the most complete edition there is, but the devs are very proud of providing major updates/expansions to the Witcher games without charging for them. So "Enhanced Edition" gets proudly displayed in the title.

I love Flash Mod, and I wouldn't be without it after playing through the game several times now. There are some nice tweaks and a handful of fixes, but be warned there are also balance changes to equipment, talents, and difficulty that I don't recommend for a virgin playthrough. Luckily you can pick and choose which aspects of Flash Mod to install. In fact, for a first time, I recommend you don't install the core mod, only the tweaks included. The version I have is dated 3/2/2010

Also be aware that the author made a similar mod called FCR (Full Combat Rebalance) which is even more radical in its gameplay changes. My Flash Mod installer has a version of FCR included. There's also newer releases of FCR as well. You can install many of the same tweaks using it as well - but seriously, beware balance changes to items, talens and monsters. The vanilla game is balanced fine (I would recommend playing on Hard), most of the tweaks are just for ease of use.

There are only a few other fixes you need be aware of:
Have Your Han Plants Give You Han, NOT Berbercane
Celina Wreath Fix - can't find a link, but it fixes an unfinishable minor quest in Chapter 4

That's it for first time mods.

You can browse through a big list of all mods here.

I'm a big fan of Roxtar's Infeno Edition UI, but that's purely cosmetic.
You may want to check out the Texturen mod and Hi-res characters mod too. Again, only cosmetic, and I uninstalled certain parts (Geralt's hair, the grass) because they actually looked worse, but overall great visual improvements.
What about for First Time Mac players? Would the mods still be necessary? I have tried this game on my Win comp, but that was years ago. The only thing I remembered from the game was the crashes were too frequent, I gave up on it long time ago.

I found a working link for this mod - it's here.

For what the mod fixes is covered here. Beware of spoilers though!

Hopefully someone else will find this info useful.
