I'm installing a hard copy on her computer and I've forgotten what extra steps I need to get the EE version running (She has small kids, so I don't want the full 1.5 version, or I'd have given the Director's Cut)

I've installed the game, removed Tages, and still need to put in the "dontForceMinReq" in the target box. I also loaded the gamers' retro DirectX drivers.

Was there anything else I needed to do to get the game to run on her machine?
She has a Athlon2 and NVidia 9600 series computer. All the specs are ok.

Also, any non-spoiler hints I should remember to give her? I've played completely through 4 times, but I can't remember which parts were fixed with which patch, and she's new to RPGs
Shouldn't need "-dontForceMinReqs" with a 9600 GPU. If you seem to, could it be because the 9600 is running on the VGA drivers instead of its own? A 9600 should play the game on High, pretty much unassisted (maybe just turn AA and AF all the way down).

Also, even though the game is spec'd for 1 to 2 GB RAM, it really wants more and will perform a lot better in systems with 3 to 4 GB.

Non-spoiler hint: The hardest thing to pick up about the game is the timing of sword strikes. Combat will be frustrating, and you'll see a lot of Geralt standing there looking stupid while the Salamanders beat on him, until you get the "click - let Geralt do his thing - click" rhythm down.

Other non-spoiler hint: Even without the Director's Cut, this game is rude, crude, and a challenge to sensitive eyes and ears. It may be especially unsuitable for playing around the sort of tykes who habitually repeat what they read or hear.

Unless your boss is a native speaker of Polish, I would highly recommend playing with Polish audio and English subtitles. Not only are the voice actors much better than in the English version, but her small kids won't understand any of the speech, unless they're right there reading the text on the screen.

It should be fairly easy to find the v1.4.5 patch (which is EE edition but without the Director's Cut). If you accidentally end up with the Director's Cut, I think there's even a fan fix floating around to "re-censor" the game for those that didn't want nudity.
"Mama, what does 'skurwysynu' mean? The bad men in your game are saying it all the time."

I agree that the game is excellent in Polish with English subtitles. But I'm not sure you even want the Polish getting caught by tender ears.

Thank you Thank you :)

Waltorious, that's an excellent suggestion!

cjgreen, I'll check her settings. Thanks :) She has 6GBRAM (yep, I know, I don't understand it either, but it's there, so she's ok, with that part)

I plan on being there with her for the prologue, so she gets the idea of combat and leveling. I won't tell her what to do, only what each choice effects, and let her decide. I also installed Morrowind, to get her more used to having to wander around to level up. She eventually wants to play MMOs, so I told her offline games are where you learn from your mistakes before you let the world see you've never generated a character before.
